I read the book. A friend of mine did this with her daughters and it worked for them. Still, I did not bother with it. I did buy a wetting doll, but my kids couldn't care less about teaching a doll how to go potty. My role as the trainer seemed a little too controlling/constant hovering, I thought my kids might resent that. Well, besides, it didn't take very much longer the way I chose to do it.:)

How old was your kid?

When we first started trying she was 2...maybe 2 1/2. This method seems really hard on the parents. But I've heard (as lucypevensie said) that it can be done.

The doll thing didn't work for my daugher either - she was into it for about....5 min. Then it was no big deal.

Basically, it was just a process of reminder her to go to the bathroom. We kept asking her every 30 minutes or so. Then one day my wife just said, "Look little girl - you are going to use the potty from now on." My daughter said, "OK"- and that was it. Weird.

Yeah the part I don't like is the doll. I can't see David being into pretending with a doll, but maybe he will get into the "pretend" thing in the next 6 months.

Did anyone try to potty train before two years old???

We tried - she just wasn't havin' it. We would say something like, "Maddy, it's time to go potty." She would reply, "I'm too little daddy"
We backed off for awhile.

Before the age of 2 is a bit too young, IMO. I have never heard of the potty training in one day. The shortest time it took around here was maybe a week and he was 3 years of age. It's called potty "training" because you have to train them into it. It's not called potty snapping where you snap your fingers and it's done! :p :D

There was a promo on the local news for a story about people potty training their kids at under 1 yr. I didn't get to see it but I do know of a friend that tried it. She tried it as soon as her daughter could sit up on her own. Didn't work - but I know people try it.

OH...if only! Then we could do "attitude snapping" or "Pick up your toys snapping" and one especially for my daughter - "Sleep in past 6am snapping."

Man, If I could snap my fingers and make those changes...sweeeeeeeeet!

Never tried it. I'm the type that would much rather have the convenience
of diapers until I'm SURE that my kids are the right age. I have potty
trained 3 kids at the ages of 2 1/2 - 3 1/4, and they all took to it with
a few days. Piece of cake. My youngest (1 3/4) is VERY interested, but
I know that because of his age, he is not able to hold it when he needs to,
which puts the pressure on ME to make it all happen and watch out for it,
so I AM WAITING! I have been tempted, but then again, why do I want the
hassle?? I have 3 other kids, life is crazy, I'm making myself wait until I
know he's READY. It's easier for me. Not to mention, I have stubborn kids
and the last thing I wanted them to be stubborn about is potty training.
So, I did it gently, like, "let's try this". We used a sticker chart and little
pieces of candy as rewards. It worked great. We didn't reprimand if they
had accidents, we just acted like, no big deal, but if you go on the potty,
you get a sticker and candy. Then you fill the chart and you get a big
prize. All my kids loved it. But every kid is different, takes to different
things in different ways.
I've know parents who stress themselves out and make themselves live
through mess after mess, just to make it happen at 1 1/2 or 2, fine, if
that's good for them, but I feel no need. I'd rather deal with a poopy
diaper than poopy pants. Just my opinion.
Good luck with your little one! I hope she takes to it quickly for you!

Hmmm, well everything I read says you can start anytime after 18 months when your child shows all the signs of readiness.

My sister, now 13, was trained in one day at 18 months. And they didn't use a doll.... so maybe I won't either.

Its still training, you just spend all day in the bathroom. I am deciding between the month long casual approach and giving this "one day" thing a try, only I will start on a Friday so I have Saturday and Sunday to continue in case it takes three days. The information I read on this method I read says it could take up to three days.

Its not that there aren't ever accidents with ANY method, so its still training and encouraging.... its just more like a crash course where you really focus on it for one day.

Wow! 18 months? Boy am I behind on today's parenting! :D Then again, my oldest is 9 my youngest is 5. All school age. If your little guy takes to this, it'd be interesting to see how it turns out!

yeah I'll let you know, but you'll have to be patient. I am going to probably do it after our Florida vacation, he will be 19-20 months. ;) He is currently 13 months, I guess I just try to look ahead to my next 6 months of things to do....

you know I did with both :)

IF you want other people who did you could try searching for an IPT forum, or a yahoo group or something. We are in the minority and generally looked down upon as 'wasting our time' course since DS was done at 25 months and DD at 15 I don't think it was a waste.

No doubt! What I could not believe was my daughter tried it on ME this morning! It's Saturday, no school, no hurry to get up, right? Wrong! It was 5 minutes past 8 and I was still asleep. She comes in and says, "Mom, the sun is up! You have to get up NOW!" She went so far as to try to pull the blanket back! Seemed like she was snapping her fingers, but I didn't respond as she'd liked. It was hilarious. My daughter is turning into ME. :| Which can be scary. :p
