  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have days too, where I realize every idle word come out of my mouth or on the computer. Only God knows how many idle words I've ever said. I'm trying very hard to keep my language clean. Especially with an echolalia teenaged autistic son and my other 2 kids. If they hear me say a "naughty" word they're like, *gasp* MOOOOM!!! That's a BAD word! My 13 year old is at the point where he thinks crap is a bad word too. He takes after his father! :p

I'm not saying I don't have my share of weaknesses in other areas, but swearing is one area where I don't seem to have much of a problem. I will admit to slipping a few times, but it is something that I really try my best to keep from doing.

I do say such things as "darn" and "heck" sometimes, but believe it or not, there are a select number of ultra-strict people who believe use of euphemisms of any kind is still swearing. Which, by that reasoning, would make the Cleaver Boys and Opie Taylor "potty-mouths".

I am not a constant f-bomb machine but I'll whip them out and some other words when talking to my buddies at times. I don't when around others.

I'm not a big fan of constant f-bomb use by others and in movies/shows. It used to not bother me when I was in my teens/early twenties but it does now, not because of any moral/class issue, just that it is so repetitive sounding. I can't stand when people say "you know" all the time either.

A co-worker of mine has quite a potty mouth and it gets really bad when he is driving. One day, he let a slew of expletives fly when he was here in the office and I gave him a feigned look of horror and asked him if he kisses his momma with that mouth, to which he promplty replied, "Only on the cheek!" lol

I am not necessarily offended by it, but I do think it lacks professionalism and class/tact to use it freely and without consideration of those around you who may be offended by it or would not benefit from being exposed to it (kids).

I used to never cuss, but then a friend got me into it. I stopped for a while, but now I'm back at it again. The only word I really use is the f-bomb. I mostly only say it, though, when I'm driving. My poor car...

If it's on your heart, it's very likely because the Holy Spirit is convicting you of it. I unwittingly cursed for years but then began reading Scriptures such as this:

Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

1 Peter 3:10 "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."

James 3:9-12 "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. This should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? Can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

Once God began putting this on my heart, I would still slip on occasion but thankfully it's become less and less frequent...to the point in which I can't recall the last slip. OK, maybe I can but I'm trying to forget. :D

accountability is another option. is there someone you're around a lot? tell them you're trying to quit cussing & ask them to call you out each time you do it. i have a habit of doing this, even with non-Christian friends, haha. I've actually caused non-Christians to try & lessen the amount of cussing they do, even when i'm not around, haha.

I don't swear much, or at least I didn't. But now I work in a company, where most of my colleagues are males and they do swear a lot. I have to watch my tongue to not start swearing also.

In fact I keep praying for my colleagues so that they are not swearing so much. Because they used words as curse like "god condemn me" (word to word translation from my language to english) all the time. I think thats really bad. They don't know what they are saying.
