Northampton man who shot ‘AK-47-style’ gun at neighbors said dog told him to do it, police say

The man accused of the shooting told Northampton Police Department detectives that his dog told him to fire the rifle. The bullets were fired from inside his apartment on Wright Avenue and into his neighbors’ apartment which are both in the same building with shared walls and a front porch.

Joshua Martinelli, 29, of Northampton, pleaded not guilty Friday morning to a total of 17 charges in Northampton District Court, including four counts of attempted murder and four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. He’s being held without right to bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Dec. 14.

I am not a psychiatrist…. but I clearly see a cause to red flag this person …. Unless of course they charge the dog with conspiracy … in which case ….there is a case for more red flags.

Reminds me of my friend who is a dyslexic agnostic who sufferers from insomnia. He often lies awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

Thank you. I'm here all week. Try the veal, it's delicious.

Unless the dog wrote him a letter and signed it "dog" dyslexia is an unlikely factor.

In 1976 serial killer David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam aka The .44 Caliber Killer, said his neighbor's dog told him to do it.

Dogs are often very good judges of character.

Later determjned to be a lie.

Conventional wisdom says we should "let sleeping dogs lie..."
full
Guy on stage with Fido, The Amazing Talking Dog.
'Fido, what is the texture of sandpaper.'
'Ruff'.
Audience is silent.
'Fido, what protects a house from the rain?'
'Roof.'
Crowd gets restive. Starts heckling the guy. Guy starts panicking.
'Um, OK. Fido, here's a hard one. Who wrote Symphany Number 1 in F minor?'
'Bach'
Audience has had enough. Storms the stage and throws the guy out into the street. He's sitting on the pavement, forlorn. The dog looks up to him and says 'I'm so sorry. It was Shostakovich wasn't it...'

IIRC the devil was speaking to Berkowitz through the dog.
As opposed to talking to him directly?

'I'm hearing voices in my head telling me to kill people. Maybe I need help...'

versus

'The dog is telling me to kill people? I definitely need help'.

As far as I know most serial killers don't tend to think along those lines. I'll have to read up on it, but as I recall Berkowitz sent letters to the police or press ala the Zodiac killer. He called the dog the "son of Sam" because the dog's owner was named Sam. This took place where I grew up along with the Manson cult killings and other creepy stuff in the 70s.

From the looks of this letter it looks like maybe Berkowitz was trying to frame the dog?
