  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I won't take credit for this, I'm borrowing the idea from another forum. (As I recall, the person who started that one said about the same thing--so who knows where it first started.) This is a thread to tell us your latest.

No, really, tell me (us) how you are doing on your latest WIP, if you have a new start, or finally rewriting the story you thought was perfect last month, if you're submitting manuscripts, getting multiple rejections or looking through artists concepts for your front cover.(One can hope!) For my part, I promise to be supportive, to encourage or give advice when appropriate.

I hope this is helpful,

Yep, and I get to go first.;)

I've finished the first draft of a short story, now I'm going back through and adding another, well, I can't think of anything else to call it other than a 'thread'. I'm adding another resolution at the end, so I have to go back and set it up throughout the story. (Word processors are a wonderful thing.)

Also, I'm in the middle of rewriting another short story, and am at the place where I'm going to change everything that happens after. It's a little rough, but I think the new direction will make a better story.

And, (sigh), I'm 1500 or so words into my brilliant novel idea, and found it kind of dry, and it doesn't look like it will improve any time soon. This may be left on my hard drive for a long time.

More later, your turn,

I am working on a novel that sounds really good in my head, but on paper, it seems to scream "Plagerism!" and "Frankenworld!" I've renamed my characters half a dozen times, still haven't come up with the major cities in the main countries, and am still working out the forms of government in the major countries.

I hope that I can stop being such a perfectionist and WRITE!

i have about 12k on a novel i've been working on for a few months now. it's been put on hold because of my thesis but hopefully i can pick it up again soon. i've done some half-hearted editing on it... basically developing some minor characters so they don't feel so flat.

I'm in the throes of nano. I wrote like crazy the first week, then didn't touch the story the second week. Not because I didn't feel like writing, it was just work and life. I knew it would be a bad week before nano started, but it was worse than I thought.

I picked the story back up on Monday and started to run again. I'm 10K words from the goal of 50K, but more importantly, I think I'm also fairly close to wrapping up the major plot elements. As I've worked on the story, I've come up with lots of ideas I want to incorporate into the earlier parts of the story. I've also found that I started many little branches that will probably need to be pruned. They turned out not to really go anywhere.

The character I had planned for my MMC turned out to be a real wimp. He's now one of the larger and more developed minor characters, but absolutely not a major.

My MC started out as an afterthought walk-on. Literally someone to deliver a message. He grew like a weed, and has recently started to develop some of the flaws that irked me about the original MC, probably because he's now the lead in scenes originally designed for the other character.

Anyhow, I see the light at the end of the tunnel -- and I hope it isn't an approaching train :D

I just about finished the 6th chapter for my story, and finally introduced one of the weirdest characters. On a side note, I completely forgot to introduce another character so I felt if he wasn't worth remembering he wasn't worth writing in. The part that stars him the most can be written without him anyway. So the hero's party is 7 instead of the 13 I had originally imagined, but the story has come a long way since then.

I want everyone to know I feel in no way obligated to comment on every post on this thread, nor do I feel in any way a superior anything to anyone here, in fact I'm quite impressed. On the other hand, I have a need to be supportive, or at least commentative, and sometimes I .. just can't help myself.

Lessien--Plagerism is in the eye of the beholder, it could be you have a connection to archytypes.

Tariel--'Ready to write' is a good time. And hopefully the rewrite yields an improved story.

CelticRose--If you don't do something a little crazy every so often ... (Um ... how many kids????) ... Really, good luck with NaHo, I've managed to aviod it so far because I know full well I couldn't do it.

oncewaslost--Don't think of it as putting your story on hold, you're just letting it stew awhile. Seriously, real life happens. You can't make it go away. And, you don't want to because the living you do makes your writing better.

ravenscape--Wow! No, I mean it. Wow!
And this is only the 16th, you might have time to edit. All that with your characters doing a square dance on you. What could be better?

NeoScribe--It sound's like you're doing fine, and more character dancing too. 13 characters ... wow.

Me? I've added the extra thread into my story, which amounted to about 1000 words, and am working now to make it all fit and make sense with the rest of the story. Somehow it all of it, another minor character slipped in--I don't know whether to leave her in or not. I'll have to watch on the rewrites.

Also, I added another page to the other story, and now it's REALLY going in another direction.

More later,

I finished a short story spun off of an old folk tale I'd read. I wasn't too pleased with the first edition, it felt a bit too contrived. The second version is much less like the source material, and more like one of my stories. I'll keep working on it.
I find myself jumping into flash fiction quite often. I guess I should reteach myself how to tell a longer short story.

I finally came up with the idea for a story I'm entering in a writing contest on another forum (wish me luck, or better, that I do my best,). I have a pretty solid sketch of the story, but I'm going to have to do some research--one of the hazards of SF, if you just make up the numbers, someone will notice.

I have limited time, for me this is really cutting it thin.

I just recently had my book, Blood Bond, published. It's a Christian vampire novel. If you want to read about it, please visit my CF link. The sequel to Blood Bond is finished. Right now I'm looking for an agent for my work. I'm also working on a fantasy novel with my sister that is near completion.

God bless you all, and I hope your fingers stick to the keyboard! :D

This sucks, the computer I was writing on went and broke and I can't find my back-up disk.

So for now While I retype what I had already printed I'm working on a new story that came from three different stories I put together since the three felt too much like ripping off my sources.

I started doing a rough edit of my nano. Got through about chapter 5 before the nano blues hit, and I haven't touched it since, though I've been thinking quite a bit about it.

I have a couple of serious plot problems. I've worked out some possible solutions to at least one. I don't want to go further with a rewrite until I know where I'm headed with the plot modifications, though.

On the other hand, friends and family are anxious to read it...so, I may go ahead and finish the rough edit of what I have now without doing a lot of plot doctoring.

decisions, decisions.
