Post Ratings given (vs received)

Plus I've always wondered why there's a + sign in front of the ratings number. The message number doesn't have that. Does anyone have negative ratings?

I think most folks don't really care much for likes/ratings these days as they are just numbers that can be ignored.

I don't keep track of them like points, but I do check to see who gave me a positive rating on a post. It's just shorthand for actually writing a post that says, "I agree with what you said here" or something similar.

If you give prayer ratings to the unreligious, they tend to think you are sarcastic or take offense, in my experience.

I tend to post jokes that push the limits of what is allowed on CF (I only crossed the line far enough to have a joke removed once). Those are the times I get "Prayer" ratings. I don't get offended because I already know I'm an awful person, but I know that's what the message is that those folks are trying to convey.

I really dislike the prayer-as-a-weapon ratings. I only click "Prayers" if someone has requested prayers, and if I have taken time right that minute to pray for the person. If what I'm trying to say is "that post was awful", I'd much rather post in reply: "That joke is offensive because of X" or "I disagree with you because of Y". I've never been into the "bless your heart" kind of condescension.

I don't think the intention is to just say, "That post was awful". I think the intention is to say "That post was awful and you are an awful person for posting it, so you must need Jesus!" If they only knew the jokes that I almost posted but deleted...
