Dear Erwin and fellow TAW moderators:

Regarding changes in the structure of The Ancient Way - Orthodox Christianity

1. There should be a new forum for the Oriental Orthodox (aka Non-Chalcedonians). Defining the Oriental Orthodox as Non-Chalcedonians may be offensive to them. This is a matter they will have to decide.

2. There should be a new subforum in the Oriental Orthodox forum for Orthodox-Oriental dialogue. In this subforum, we can place all our our current and past threads on the Oriental Christians or on dialogues with them as appropriate. This is where debates can take place between the Oriental and the Orthodox.

Here are some threads which could be transferred immediately into the new subforum for the Oriental-Orthodox dialogue.

3. There should be a new subforum in the Orthodox Forum (TAW) that is called St. Athanasius Chapel and Reference Library for the use of the Orthodox Christians, as a place were we can put most of our permanent threads. Since this patron saint was chosen with participation from the Coptic Christians, perhaps we should decide on another name. Since St. Athanasius is a very popular saint among the Coptics, they may want this patronal name. This is a question that should be addressed by all of us.

It is the name Monophysites that some of them find offensive.

I think the term Oriental Orthodox is misleading. Oriental means "eastern," so Oriental Orthodox really means "Eastern Orthodox."

But I suppose the Non-Chalcedonians should be able to pick whatever name they want for their new forum.

I agree with Jeff. What is the point? I don't know how many of them visit here, but I rarely see any arguing from them. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't get why this is such a big deal. (I do understand all the history and doctrinal/theological and historical differences, however.)

I get along just fine with the Copts who have posted here. I simply avoid arguing where I disagree with them. Hint, hint.

Suzannah, Chris and Jeff,

I have seen some inquirers here who seem confused about this so-called unity that is non-existent. It makes us appear so fragmented.

The Catholics in OBOB don't allow the Coptics to be debating in their forum although the two churches do have an ongoing Catholic-Oriental dialogues.

The Orthodox in TAW shouldn't be debating with the Coptics and the Orientals but they do precisely because the two are in the same forum. It would make sense to have the two separated, as they do in the Catholic OBOB forum.

Please let the Orientals and Coptics have their own thread, call it want they want to and let's respect them and join them for fellowship.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth

P.S. Look at the 20 threads I have researched. Most have disagreements within them. Some are closed, while a few were deleted. 20 threads within 8 months. Again this does not include the random posts that are within other threads here.

If our Oriental Orthodox brethren in Christ our True God want their own forum, they are perfectly capable of asking for one themselves. Otherwise, the current arrangement seems to me to be adequate.

As for the intercommunion with Coptics and other non-Chalcedonian Christians, I really have no comment except to say that the Antiochian Patriarchate and the OCA are both canonical jurisdictions in communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and all other canonical jurisdictions of the Orthodox Church. Yes, this is something of a mess. But just as it is not our calling as a forum to repair the Great Schism, it's not our place to fix the schism between the Eastern Orthodox and the non-Chalcedonians. Our church is badly in need of a pan-Orthodox council--an eighth Ecumenical Council.

A "traditional Orthodox" forum would be absolutely redundant, as all Eastern Orthodox Christians, myself included, accept all Seven Ecumenical Councils. This will not be required.

Well, my good mood from church is gone. I'm going to go hit up St. Athanasius for some prayers. I love that guy. Also, because of his whole deal with Nicaea I, he seems like a good guy to ask for help with church schisms... HINT HINT!!!

Attn: Moderators and Members

Please consider having a new subforum in the Orthodox Forum (TAW) that is called St. Athanasius Chapel and Reference Library for the use of the Orthodox Christians, as a place were we can put most of our permanent threads. This patron saint was already chosen with participation from the Coptic Christians.

The following are some permanent and regular threads which can be transferred immediately into the new subforum (Chapel/Library for TAW):

http://www.christianforums.com/t93891
http://www.christianforums.com/t43287
http://www.christianforums.com/t43608

http://www.christianforums.com/t47943
http://www.christianforums.com/t46416
http://www.christianforums.com/t46001

Upon Andreas recommendation, I have already started a thread over in the Suggestions Forum to petition Erwin for a new subforum.

Since we have 13 permanent threads, we should have a place to house most of them and to organize our forum.

I have reposted this with modifications to bring it to your attention as the other topic overshadowed this one.

Yours in Christ,
Elizabeth

There was no debate until about a month ago when Maximus opened it up, and then tikon began his push to tear the forum apart. Just a year ago we all got along to pick a common saint between us for the forum. Remember it is the Oriental Orthodox Forum as well. If anyone needs to be thrown out it is the ones who want to debate them here.

You have no authority here to throw ANYONE OUT.
However I will refer your unchristian comments to our moderator.

I simply posted a couple of links to some articles I thought all Orthodox Christians should read.

Tikon simply asked a very common sense question: why do Non-Chalcedonians share a forum with the Eastern Orthodox?

A similar sort of question might arise if CF had a Roman Catholic/Lutheran forum.

It is amazing how some can be so tolerant of groups the Fathers declared heretical, yet so intolerant of those who stand up for the Orthodox faith:

If anyone needs to be thrown out it is the ones who want to debate them here.

It is quite obvious that some who claim to be Orthodox DON'T accept the Councils, hence the need for another section.

As far as I know, the OCA has not begun communing Non-Chalcedonians and neither has the EP.

Quite frankly, I have more of a problem with Jeff.
At least the Copts are firm in their beliefs. To be attacked by one who calls themself Orthodox, yet acts like something else, is far worse.

When I was baptized, I affirmed my belief in every dogmatic teaching of the canonical Orthodox Church. So if you are accusing me of violating my baptismal vows, I hope you are somehow my spiritual father in disguise.

This is the sum and total of my public words to you on the subject. If you have further criticisms on my spiritual state, I suggest that you either transmit them to me privately or keep them to yourself.
