Posessed by the holy or demonic

I am not an expert on demon possession but....
God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit do not possess a person as a demon would.
A Christian person is a temple in which the Holy Spirit indwells. God doesn't force us to do His will. Because we love Him, we long to do His will.

I know that is not a long theological explanation but hey that's the best I got for now!

Seriously, there are others that I hope will chime in, and who will go into more detail if you wish.

This is a topic I am just learning about right now. I personally do not believe a demon or evil spirit can possess a Christian. I do believe that demons and evil spirits can influence anyone, Christian or not. I am saying that is an external thing, not an internal one. If anyone else can answer this better, that is fine too, because I really do not know details about it.

Well being filled with the Holy Spirit is a whole lot different than possession by any entity. It is not the same.

Please read Kym's response because it's really good. Also cygne's is good as well.

Now to your further question:

(a) It's not all that easy to become possessed by a demon - and who would ever want to let THAT happen to them. But it's a serious matter if it has.

(b) A Christian has the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within them as spelt out in John 14.

To be a true Christian a person has deliberately accepted Jesus into their life as their Saviour from all sin, and as Lord over their life. They are then born a second time by the Holy Spirit, and the same spirit will affirm to them in their mind and spirit that they really DO belong to God.

So there's the difference. If you've never done (b) then God is not within you. Simple at that. It IS then possible that (a) could be true, tho unlikely.

When the Holy Spirit dwells in you it acts as your Helper guiding you on the right way to go. It is like a super conscious giving you peace when you are on the right way but withdrawing peace when your going the wrong way.

I think it's rare that demons control bodies -- in most cases, they harass the mind, and deceive. There are plenty of stories people could tell of other problems, but we don't lose control of our soul to either God or evil forces. Demons can't own you. You have authority at any time to tell them to leave.

I like your question, though... it seems like something good to get straight, especially if someone is feeling overly influenced one way or another. God wants us to yield to Him, but not so He can take over. Rather, so we willingly listen to His inner guidance. But every step is our own.

If you are "in Christ" by the baptism in the Spirit (Acts 2v4, 11v14-18, 1 Cor. 12v13) then you certainly don't have demons - you are "free indeed", there are no demons in Christ's body thank you very much !!

The scriptures teach that the miraculous gifts were coming to a close when Paul penned 1 Cor.13

With that, physical possession by Satan or his demons would also be ceasing. However, demonic moral possession has never ceased.

Evil spirits can oppress the believer and voice unbelief and discouragement to them, but they cannot dwell within the vessel of a person who has the authority of Jesus in their lives. It would have to be by choice that a person would allow evil spirits any control in their lives, and that contradicts the spirit of God through His word, as others have already given some of the scripture about us being the dwelling place of God's abiding Spirit and that we should be filled with His Spirit.

Ephesians 5:15 So be careful how you live. Don&#8217;t live like fools, but like those who are wise.
16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

The Holy Spirit does not share it's temple with demons. All people indwelled by the Holy Spirit cannot have a demon.

This is starting to sound like the debate threads on Deliverance Theology... it's a continual source of disagreement, so we're not going to finalize Truth here. The OP question related more to a concern on the difference between godly spirits and demon spirits.

What do you mean? cannot be with God?

A man with a demon can desire to be with God and God can remove the demon from the man.

Are you asking if a person who has a demon has no chance of salvation?

People who have been possesed by demons have been saved indeed.
