Yeah, too much of anything can be a bad thing.

When I was a teen, pornography was hard to come by. This added to the allure of sex and the female form. I probably watched at most an average of five minutes of porn per month. And then there was Skinamax aka Cinemax which had lots of topless late-night pseudo porn, and again I probably averaged an hour of that per month at best...basically sneaking a peek while my parents were sleep.

Nowadays with the internet you can watch as much porn as you like whenever you like and there are no parental controls or settings that teens can't defeat and by-pass

The thought of having ED as a teen is unfathomable to me, but psychology is psychology. If you are watching hours of porn everyday it is going to desensitize you to sex.

That’s the truth; my teens have to set up everything online at my house just so I can watch my Netflix.

Funny; very few studies have agreed with this, even if you just look at the past few decades. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/women-who-stray/201308/erectile-dysfunction-myth
Thanks for the article, makes a lot of sense and uses great logic and rationale.

It is true, ED was NEVER studied before in young males so you can't with any scientific certainty blame ED in younger men on porn using anecdotes.

Also, I would guess we'd also have to define "too much porn". If someone were to do a real study, you'd have to produce a bell curve of sexual performance vs porn viewing. I would guess that watching porn would/could actually improve sexual performance. This may be too much info for this forum but when I was younger, I figured out a way to use porn to improve my stamina.

So I would argue that porn can be beneficial and like anything there is a point of diminishing return and beyond that a point where harm is done. Now where those lines are I have no idea and neither does anyone else because a real study on this subject would be difficult.

Personally, I think it is considerably more likely that young men are suffering ED more frequently because of society's emasculation of men that because of porn.

Just like the therapist in the article, I don't have any actual facts or studies to back up my belief but it's my belief.

There have been numerous researchers who attempt to reinforce their anti-porn bias with a number of studies similar to this one.

First off, let's get our terms right.

Difficulty getting mentally stimulated and ED are two different things. ED is a physical issue in which you want to perform, but can't due to physical factors including but not limited to:
Medication
Hormone Imbalance
Kidney Disease
Blood flow issues
Low Nitric Oxide levels
Prostate Issues
...just to name a few

If what you're seeing doesn't excite you, then ED has nothing to do with it. ED is when you like what you see, but your body doesn't respond accordingly.

Now, visual desensitization is something that can be discussed...Much like how an ER trauma surgeon isn't going to be as squeamish around blood as a person who doesn't see it all the time, if you look at naked women all day, at a certain point, the visual appeal isn't going to be as strong because you build a sort of tolerance to it....however, that's not ED.

There have also been people who try to make the claim that porn leads to illegal porn "because the person is always seeking something more extreme"...but those also have never been proven to be grounded in any sort of reality and the only studies that ever claim to produce those results are heavily biased and clearly coming from a pre-dispositional stance against porn.

The Urological term for failure to achieve or keep an erection is Erectile Dysfunction - whether from an organic cause or psychological.

I feel so emasculated by society!

Actually, nah; I feel like I have the freedom to do the things I want whether or not they subscribe to society's gender roles. I own a Hawaiian-themed rainbow hairbrush! I listen to girly pop music (much of it about Jesus)! I openly enjoy the color pink as long as half the room isn't covered in it! I can gasp or giggle or jump up and down when I get excited, and do other ridiculous things that society for some reason associates with women or femaleness!

I have the freedom to be myself and do what I want (when it isn't harming anyone), and I don't feel emasculated whatsoever. I'm still a man; I'm just a man who doesn't have to pretend he's something he isn't.

In a broader sense, perhaps...

However, "failure to achieve" when looking at something that doesn't excite you, can that really be considered a true "failure" at that point?

I went to the license bureau the other day to renew my plates...when I saw my new license plates, I didn't get an erection...

You're not supposed to "stand at attention" for things that don't stimulate you, correct?

This is my favorite post.
lol

Although...if I could've gotten through the DMV line in quicker than 40 minutes, that might have done the trick lol

Good for you. However, eradicating or significantly modifying gender roles comes with repercussions. To suggest that assigning a negative perspective to the historical male role model hasn't harmed anyone is ludicrous.

You're acting like there was previously one single construction of masculinity that was practiced by all societies around the world for all of human history...

Yeah, but the thing is, you don't have any actual evidence that there were negative repercussions. Give me some hard statistics.

Opinions are worthless if they aren't backed up by hard data.

You want evidence? Take a look around. You want to remain blind? Don't.

As I've said before in countless online "discussions," I have enough of a life in the real world. I don't really give a rip whether or not random people on Internet forums agree with me. I certainly don't care enough to go do a bunch of research that won't matter to someone with an unshakeable bias.
