How did you arrive at that conclusion? Something that is broad based, like populism, is far less likely to turn to authoritarianism than a centralized and controlling government.
No. Asking a question that is getting ignored doesnt seem like it would be goading at all if you are engaging in a conversation and are critical of the accepted definition.
My point was that one a populist movement gains power, (working the levers of governance), the populist-leaders become “the new establishment”…excising the old-establishment from said levers.
And your examples of that, in this country of course, is what exactly?.....and please trying to allude to a comparison of another country really does not work. We are, after all, pretty unique government in the world as respect to governing and rights..

It must, if populist expectations are to be met. For example, Trump will not be able to accomp;ish the immediate mass deportation of asylum-seeking aliens he has promised without authoritarian methods.
And you justify this belief because of what?.....your intimate knowledge of immigration law or your hatred of Trump and his policies? (I think most of us already know the answer to this question)
I know enough about immigration law to know that if he follows existing procedures or waits until Congress changes them he won't make it before the 2026 elections. He's going to have to push the limits pretty hard to get it done. Suppose, for example, he decided to declare a state of emergency to override existing law. That would by, by definition, authoritarian whether you favored the move or not. Sometimes being authoritarian is the right way to go about things, especially during emergencies.
Most all of his administration is made up of either millionaires, billionaires or close relatives. Show me where the Everyman fits into his administration.
To be fair, he earned his money through hard work like everyone else - being paid hundreds of thousands a year as an elementary school student from daddy. A true hero of the common man's struggles.
