  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Population control?

Two thoughts to keep in mind with this subject.

The world's population grew at a very slow rate until about two hundred years ago when it began to skyrocket. No one who is concerned about overpopulation should take refuge in the idea that "humans have been around as long as science says and population hasn''t increased to alarming numbers still."

Also, natural disasters have never slowed population growth for more than a few years--not even the worst such disasters in human history. Therefore, a meteor striking Earth or something we've never seen could wipe out half the population of the planet, but nothing we've experienced so far would make any significant difference were it to happen again (and that includes some pretty bad epidemics and wars, for example).

Yes, I meant to edit and include disease with natural disasters but didn't have time. Still with disasters and disease population increases.
I remember in my college history class learning that the Native Americans began to reproduce at a more rapid pace once they began growing maze. I believe it was said to be caused by the sugar in the corn. Perhaps since our sugar intake has increased to drastically, I wonder if the population boom and sugar increase were connected in a way. Just a thought since nearly everything we eat is sugar.

We are also doing "population control" with contraceptives, when a woman gets an abortion, when men get vasectomies and women get their tubes tied, when married couples abstain... Etc.
I don't agree with some forms of "population control" but more so, I find more and more every day that we are in danger of becoming "Idiocracy", but of course a real version.
