ROME – On today’s Solemnity of the Epiphany the Holy Father lamented that the Church is often split into groups based on various interpretations of the faith and stressed the importance of communion, saying God must be at the centre of faith, rather than one’s own ideas about it.

Pope Francis’s comments came amid a burgeoning controversy over a recent Vatican declaration permitting non-liturgical blessings of same-sex unions, which has revealed strong divisions within Catholicism.

“We need to abandon ecclesial ideologies to find the meaning of Holy Mother Church, the ecclesial attitude. Ecclesial ideologies: no; ecclesial vocation, yes,” he said.

“The Lord, not our own ideas or our own projects,” must be the focus, the Pope added. “Let us set out anew from God; let us seek from him the courage not to lose heart in the face of difficulties, the strength to surmount all obstacles, the joy to live in harmonious communion.“

Frankie is hip-deep in this mess already, and it seems that every time he opens his mouth lately, he just sinks deeper. :sigh:

article below said:
Amid resistance to some Vatican policy by more conservative factions of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis on Saturday cautioned the faithful against fracturing into groups “based on our own ideas.” He issued the call to abandon “ecclesiastical ideologies” in his homily in St. Peter’s Basilica during Epiphany Day Mass, the last major Christmas season holiday.

"Ecclesiastical ideologies". So what, precisely, does that mean, Frankie? The Deposit? Dogma? Doctrine? What part of Catholic teaching do we excise to get rid of "ecclesiastical ideologies"?

Or should we just go complete Martin Luther and start throwing out whatever we don't happen to like? "Well, gee, celibacy doesn't fit in with the "modern" version of Catholicism today---we'll get rid of that." Ditto for divorce. Double ditto for homosexual relations. Polygamy. Abortion.

After all, prohibitions for all those things constitute "ecclesiastical ideologies", do they not? If we condemn that type of activity, then we're "bitter clingers" who try to "move backwards", to use your own terms for it, right, Frank?

If you're wondering what that big "klunk" was when you threw the bathwater out the window, it was the baby hitting the sidewalk----you forgot to take him out first.

Progressives must be totally lacking in self-knowledge, as well as lacking in a realistic perception of the world outside of themselves. Thus they can be all-in the fantasy world they are absolutely committed to. Thus "ideologues" is a contemning term that they can unselfconsciously hurl at any and all non-progressive who stand in their way. They do not realize how accurately they paint on their enemies a perfect self-portrait of themselves. They dwell in an obsessive love-hate relationship with themselves! Thus, painfully, no wonder their misery is their gift to mankind.
Lord God, deliver us soon from this insanity!
