There are plenty of observed facts in the Bible. Why do people deny that. For example, Moses says to use pure oil in your lamp.

Exodus 27:20
"And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually.

Except that nobody's denying that the Bible has a lot of good commonsense advice -- but that's all it is.

Pure Oil --> God?

Now there is no doubt that there is some sort of symbolic meaning to this passage, about our purity before God. But there is also no doubt that pure oil will burn cleaner and you will not have to clean the lamp as often.

No doubt? There's plenty of doubt! This may very well be some practical advice for people to live their day-to-day lives -- the burden is on you to prove it has some deeper meaning.

As Freud (whom you hate with such a passion) once said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Similarly, sometimes a lamp is just a lamp.

This is a simple truth that science can verify and the Bible is FILLED with them. Why do people deny this and then expect me to believe that they know the truth?

Pure oil burns better than oil with a lot of garbage in it. Is this the best you can base your faith on, Johhny?

I guess you do not know anything about science and how people project out on others. /quote]

I was just pointing out your own projection John. You didn't answer the question. We don't need to look at Freud, the Bible explains this quite well. You seem to be ignoring the log in your eye.

John, why are you accusing someone of the very thing your guilty of? Do you have anything new or just the same old same old of claiming that someone is accusing you of the very thing they are guilty of?

Yes, because I am always accusing others of projection I watch myself very close for it. There are times I am guilty of it. As I said, we can not judge others, we can only judge ourselves. Unless of course people want to tell on themselves. In general people try to avoid telling on themselves. That is ok, because we are not suppose to be making personal attacks on each other. We are suppose to be talking about evolution, creation and science.

This is a example. In all the time I have been on the board, this one amazes me the most that people deny the truth in the Bible that is obvious for all to see. There are many, many, many, many examples of truth that we find in the Bible that we would all agree on as being scientifically truth. The Bible was written by a lot of people over a long period of time. If there were going to be contradictions, they would contradict each other. But we do not see any of that at all in the Bible.

I wish that were true, that no one denys the commonsense advice that we find in our Bible. If that were the case then I could just pack up my bags and go home. Because most of what I deal with are the things that are or should be obvious to science and to everyone.

the burden is on you to prove it has some deeper meaning.

Do you really think we need to convince people of the things that have deeper meaning? It is up to them if they want to seek after the deeper things of God. I suppose I could try to convince them that this is a worthwhile thing to do. That God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek after Him.

In Bible school we are taught to do what we can. Work with people where they are at to try and show them or teach them as much as you can.

Someone once commented to the pastor that it sounded like the pastor was talking right to him. The pastor said of course I am talking to you, I can not very well teach someone that is not here to teach. Just like someone asked him how he can talk to everyone at the same time. He said it is easy, you just talk to everyone.
