  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

perhaps. but I think he has to be more mindful of how the rest of the world see it. and based on the comments at the bottom of the news story both catholic and anti-catholic alike seem to think it's not really kosher

Again, this is quazi-Manichean. If the pope is given something for free and it is secular and the world condemns him for it, then it is embracing a dualist ideology which is incompatable with an orthodox Christian understanding of God.

Quite honestly, the Vatican Catholic Church is one of the most generous institutions in the world. Yes, it has its problems currently, but the idea that it is as corrupt and worldly as it was pre-Trent is ridiculous. Futhermore, even during the age of corrupt popes, their church was still in the business of helping the misfortunate.

The pope is given a gift and he's called "worldly" for it? Come on. Truth isn't dictated on the misguided opinions of people.
