To those concerned about ecumenism: What's the impact of this, how does this change anything? It doesn't. +BARTHOLOMEW goes to Rome, prays a little bit, probably eats a good meal, chit chats with some people, an article gets written in the press. When it comes to actual doctrine, he says infuriating (to Catholics) things like there is an ontological difference between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church (paraphrase). He'll do the same thing next year, too, and the newspaper will write the same article and we'll all get sand in our knickers because he was called the spiritual leader of 250 million Orthodox and the pope said he felt like we were closer than ever. The "panheresy of ecumenism" usually ends up being nothing more than a social visit. Wake me when a synod actually DOES something besides getting coffee with the pope. Until then, you can either do your prostrations or you can whine about it on the internet.

i agree its not the biggest deal in teh world, but he's doign more than having coffee with the Pope. he is praying with a heretical bishop which violates the canons he is sworn to uphold.

In what way? In the picture, only the Pope is dressed in liturgical attire. Accordingly, I presume it's nothing that wouldn't conform to, for instance, the SCOBA's published guidelines on "interfaith" events (not that +BARTHOLOMEW is governed by them). Does it help? I really do want to know, because if it does, I may change my ways.
