Pop-ups problem

I've googled this, and thought I'd ask the questionn here. I've been all of a sudden receiving a lot of pop ups when I'm on the internet. Not normal pop ups that block the page, but they sort of 'sit' off to the right side or left side until I click on the box to get rid of them from view.

Very annoying!

Any thoughts to how to get rid of these? I use Windows 7. I'm not a fan.

Almost sounds like you might have an infection.

my anti virus software isn't up to date, no.
i was afraid someone might ask me that. lol

Update & Run a full scan would be the first step then.

How do I do that? I have noticed a box popping up and it looks like it is part of Microsoft? But how to know for sure. I'm afraid to click on it and that itself is a virus.

They're pretty good at mimicking MS products and Windows components when creating malware. If you're not sure, you need to have an expert look at it.
