Ok, my first experience with "real blood" happened with my 2 year old daughter (Andie) the other day! She was running to get into bed to take her nap & fell flat on her face!! Of course, she started crying & I assumed it was no big deal, I'm ashamed to say I was even a little annoyed because this was pushing back her naptime & "what an inconvenience".
Anyways, I carried her to the kitchen to get ice, her face buried in my neck & sobbing the whole way. Anyways, we get to the kitchen, she lifts her head & lo&behold! My shirt on that side was SOAKED in blood, and it was pouring from her mouth!
Of course I freaked out, and it took forever to get it to stop, she wouldn't eat any ice & the only thing I could think to do was get her to suck on a rag soaked in cold water. Well, we finally got her to suck on a popsicle, which made it all better. (*whew*) I dosed her with some baby motrin & after her nap she was back to normal, there wasn't even any swelling. I guess she bit her tongue, she didn't really eat that much the rest of the day/night.
The blood & pain she was going through was awful, but I guess the thing that makes me feel the most guilty is my very initial reaction of annoyance when she first fell & started crying...isn't a mother's instinct supposed to be just the opposite, one of compassion?
Of course, I felt horrible that she was upset, and when I realized how bad it was I felt even worse! I know I should just let it go, but I just had to share...thanks for listening!
