In my personal opinion. It starts when the first church was baptized with the holy ghost.

Acts 2
"1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

The Gospel begins with the proclamation of John the Baptist, in fulfillment of the prophets.
Mark 1:1. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in the Prophets:
Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.
4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance
for the remission of sins.

We were still under law at that point. No salvation for the church, until the lord Jesus Christ raised from the dead.

hi your question is a bit tricky and the better question should be when did the new covenant begin. Jesus noted that this was made in his blood. Jesus said from the cross it is finished. In Rev 5 we see all the redeemed sing out worthy is the Lamb who has redeemed us by His blood out of every tribe tongue kindred and nation. So when Jesus said it is finished or as some translate paid in full the new covenant was established. I think the old testament still has many prophecies left to be fulfilled and that is another debate but the new covenant came in and is in full effect.

Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

Christ is alive when the Book of Matt or any of the 4 gospels epistles begin

The New Testament begins at Christ's death & Resurrection. The New Testament/Covenant Church is birthed 50 days later.

The words testament/covenant are interchangeable.

hi your question is a bit tricky and the better question should be when did the new covenant begin. Jesus noted that this was made in his blood. Jesus said from the cross it is finished. Neither Matthew1v1, nor Mark1v1 nor Luke1v1, nor John1v1 are the start of the New Testament.
In fact virtually the whole of Jesus's ministry was conducted during the Old Testament period and presented to an Old testament people!
Basically, Jesus exposed how the OT scriptures were actually meant to operate in people's lives.

Regarding the start of the New Testament, although there is more to it than meets the eye, Jesus actually tells us himself.-

Matt26v28For this is My blood of the new Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

Everything that passed before that time, was still OT.

Matthew was traditionally believed to be the first Gospel written. Early Christian writers, historians, and bishops affirmed this. If I recall correctly, I think Origen, Eusebius, and Irenaeus said this. Additionally, there are copies of Matthew in Greek with the date 41 AD written on them. Not that Matthew himself necessarily dated it, but this is a longheld undisputed Christian tradition.

And Matthew was originally written in Hebrew, according to the above sources.

Where does the new testament begin?

The New Covenant is different than the label New Testament. You should be more specific with your labels.

The phrase 'New Testament' is what the Books starting with Matthew 1 to the end of Revelation 22 are called.

The phrase 'New Covenant' only applies to Christ's Salvation offer by His Blood shed upon the cross. And it was actually first given... through Abraham back in Old Testament times! See Galatians 3 and Romans 4.

That is why Apostle Paul said those of the same Faith as Abraham have become the "children of Abraham".

(So once again, brethren come here thinking they know, but really don't know, and only show their lack of Bible study in both the Old and New Testament Books.)

I would agree that when the Gospels were written the New Testament had already begun. But from a historic perspective, the NT had not begun when the Gospel stories begin. The NT began with Jesus' death (death of the testator), and was ratified by His resurrection (conquering death). So from a historic perspective, the NT begins at the end of the Gospels with Jesus' death. But considering that the Gospels were written some time after His death, it is legitimate to say that the NT begins at the beginning of the first Gospel (Matt 1:1), but certainly not before.

The Gospel of Mark is the oldest gospel. 1st Thessalonians is the oldest Pauline letter.
