Guess I should abandon Christianity now.

How have you arrived at this conclusion?

Hi Jimmyjimmy,
Good question. The Bible as well Islam's Quran are addressing God as a 'HE'. The 'HE', the male in human societies represents a figure of dominance. It has been like this throughout mankind's history. Therefore, it seems rather obvious that God is being considered of male gender.

However, why should we assume that God has any gender qualities at all?
If God were a male why is there a female goddess of sorts missing? Without a female companion
being a male doesn't make any sense. Also, when taking into consideration that God had no beginning, who always existed, because nothing can come from nothing, the issue of gender quality becomes unimportant. That's why it makes only sense to conclude that God is a Superior Spiritual Being ruling everything, not a male, not a female but an IT. IT can be contacted by means of prayer.
You don't have to abandon the teachings of Jesus Christ, who speaks repeadedly of a 'Father'. While doing so Jesus took into account the limmited spiritual awareness of humans during his time.
God bless

Where I live -- New Mexico -- the Indians around here are very much aware how their ancestors were treated by "Christians", i.e. Spanish conquistadores who claimed to be Christian but in reality were extremely cruel and violent, making slaves of those who "believed" and maiming or killing those who didn't "accept Christ".
While your story is humorous there is a lot of terrible truth behind it. Fortunately quite a few Indians have become Christians over time but they will never forget how they were treated.

Hi pescador,

Regretfully, I can only agree to your assessment of the behavior of so-called Christians toward the American Indians in times past. Especially in Central- and South America where Spanish conquistadores used to rob the native Indian population of their culture and belongings and shipped tons of gold to Europe.
My opening post actually demonstrates Indian politeness toward the missionary. Instead of calling the claim by the Christian missionary that Jesus fed 5000 men with a few loafs of bread and some fish ridiculous the tribal chief responded with an equally ridiculous claim and simply pointed to a lack of manners by the man of the Christian faith.
God bless
