(OSV News) — The president of the Polish bishops’ conference has bitterly criticized demands for liberal change by the church in neighboring Germany and urged the pope not to allow them to dominate Rome’s Synod on Synodality.

“Awareness of the power of truth sustains my hope for the ongoing synod — that it won’t be in any way manipulated or used to authorize German theses which openly contradict Catholic Church teaching,” Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki of Poznan said in a letter to Pope Francis released Nov. 14.

“There’s a risk the scientific claims being cited are wrong, as happened with another once-popular theory about racism. If doctrinal competence were granted to bishops’ conferences or continental assemblies, then such theses would be considered Catholic — and perhaps imposed on other conferences, despite their obviously non-Catholic character,” the archbishop said.

The 1,000-word letter was published ahead of the Polish bishops’ Nov. 20-21 fall plenary, which is expected to focus on reactions to the October Rome synod.

At the close of the Oct. 4-29 synod, a reportsummarizing the discussions was released. What follows now is a yearlong period of reflection for the whole church, which will culminate in the second and final synod assembly in late 2024 on the same topic of synodality.

Alarmed by ‘left-liberal ideologies’

I think it’s time to listen to persecuted cardinals more so than bored cardinals in peaceful countries. Remember the biblical story of King David and his greatest sin. When the king should’ve been supporting the troops at the front he would rather spend his time eyeing forbidden fruit (aka bathsheba). It lead him into the greatest sin of his reign as king of Israel.

It’s the same thing happening in Germany and large parts of western christianity. Boredom is the gateway to error and sin. It’s a story as old as mankind.
Chinese and African prelates on the other hand face persecution on a daily basis. Their eyes are clear and focused on the truth. They should serve as consultants to the pope and the Vatican, not the lapsed and overweight German prelates.
Poland has suffered through great trials for a long time and their eyes are clear as a result.
Their voice is therefor clearer and more based on truth than other prelates in the west.

If the pope ever wakes up as a wise man he would pay more attention to prelates such as Crd. Chen and people like him. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening under this pontiff. Perhaps God grants the church the blessing of a better and more Godfearing pope at the next conclave. One could always hope, and pray that He does. Glory to his name!
