We had rats in our shed & garage ... they moved in when the neighbors dumped their swimming pool and flooded the rats out of their yard...They're smart critters. Used to steal the peanut butter from the traps without sprining them.
Yes, they are very smart. We don't have any old fashioned traps, but we have an electric one and one where they would go in and stay trapped, and they don't get near either of them!

Yep, they live in our bathroom/closet across from the bathroom. They came in when our landlord started working on the bathroom. They used to be outside. We're still trying to figure out how to get rid of them!

Borrow someone's pet Boa or get a terantula and turn it loose for few days.

Haha. .yeah, but what about our dogs? Either them being okay or them leaving the boa/tarantula alone.

If you are going to get a snake, get a Black snake. They'll eat the rats, and be less dangerous for you since they aren't poisonous and don't squeeze you to death. A big black snake made it's way into my sister-in-law and her husband's shed a couple of years ago and they let it stay. The shed is detached from the house, but they have not had a mouse problem there or in the house for that matter ever since. The snake is like 8 feet long now!

Just be careful if you get it from the woods yourself. Lately here, we've been having a strange mating thing going on with the snakes that hasn't happened before. The Black Snakes are mating the the Copperheads. The baby snakes might or might not be poisonous.

That just sounds weird... hopefully they'll be like mules and sterile... imagine a snake you think is harmless with nasty long poisonous fangs! Eep!

The snake hangs out in the rafters and doesn't bother anyone or anything. They named him Blackie. The kids and dog aren't even scared of him. When you walk by, it will poke it's head out, look at you, then goes back to being curled up sleeping. When it's colder, it will go somewhere to hibernate, and will be back in the Spring. It's funny.

I sure hope those mix snakes can't reproduce. I'm a little nervous about the snake mix-breeds. Missouri has a huge black and copperhead population, and we are hoping to build in a rural area next to a creek in a few years.

Don't know that the parents want a snake in the house, even a borrowed one.

Marlbes heard a rat in the bathroom again. Wolves were mentioned today, too. I think the answer to wolves or snakes is "no."

Back to the drawing board. . .but first, I must get some sleep and not stay up until 3am (like I did last night - doing what else? that trinity study.)

We used glue traps pretty succesfully when we had mices a few years ago.
My mom has a friend and told her that if you use glue traps with rats, they'll just tear their feet and tails and fur off and leave those sticking to the traps and still go running - EWWW! Rat parts!

Of course many animals will do that if they are caught in a snare or spring trap. It's instinctual. I seem to remember a news story about a man who was mountain climbing a couple of years back got his arm pinned under a rock and if he would have waited for someone to come and help him he might have died. So he took the headphones from his walkman and used it to amputate his arm so that he could be rescued.

An arm is a small price to pay to continue living. Just think of what Jesus sacrificed so we could live eternally.

Yes, but the thought of these little animal feet is gross and disturbing - and then it's "awww. . .poor animal."
