  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pointless posts.

We have two or three inches of snow by Halloween! In January, it might be -40 degrees! We've already had one light freeze. But that's what we get for living at 6,000 + ft. That and elk bedding down in your front yard.

If you don't mind my asking, where do you live? I'm a southern gal living up north now, and my bones start freezing at 50 degrees F. BRRR! How awesome to have elk for neighbors, though.

We live in NW Colorado, 40 miles south of Wyoming and 90 miles east of Utah, or 50 miles west of Steamboat Springs (ski resort). I was raised in Southern Illinois. Believe me that firs winter was a real shocker!

The local weather station thermometer froze at -55. The unofficial low was -63, I think. We had at least three feet of snow on the ground for about three months. But its a dry cold. Some winters I have gone all winter long without buttoning my coat.

That may sound strange, but if the wind is not blowing the air can be quite warm. And, whho in ther right mind would go out after -20?!!!

By the way, have I told you that attorneys and doctors are evil?
What do you call a busload of lawyer with one seat empty going over a cliff?

We've had excitment here today. Ever seen a Sidewinder? I walked out into the garage with a bag of trash and saw this little black line wiggleing accross the floor in that distictive, unmistakable fashion. It was less than a foot long, so not very old. My husband found another one further down the driveway. Tomorrow we go on a major search and distroy mission. The nest must be destroyed.

I suppose I'll have to pack my .32 for awhile until we find the parents. Oh, the joys of living in the Wild, Wild, Wild West!

Elk are not the only unusual pets we have. You really do have to watch where you step sometimes. The good news is that no one has seen a lion within three miles of town for at least ten years.

Ya, but did you have to carry a .32 anywhere in Illinois...except for perhaps Cabrini Green? -----R
Welllll, I grew up in Bloody Williamson County. There were bullet holes in the Masonic Lodge building, from the `20s though. We did have tiny deer in the field next to our house. The only snakes we actually ever had in the yard were common Garden Snakes who ate our blackberries. The Water Moccasins were out at Crab Orchard Lake.

I am absolutely livid.
Last Saturday, Psycho Sally was playing the insubordinate ape with D. On Sunday, the boss's daughter came in and told her the sign wasn't on in the window. Psycho decided to go, well, psycho. She ranted that she wasn't the only person capable of turning the sign on, yadda, yadda, yadda.(where customers could hear) Then, she called his daughter a stupid B. The boss heard about this from his daughter, and he was angry. Monday, he asked me if I would work her shift this Sunday,(he's going to be out of town) because he had every intention of firing Sally. On Tuesday, I told him my husband said it would be okay. On Wednesday, Psycho tells the night manager she'd like to leave work early so she could pack up and get out of her apartment ASAP. So... we figure maybe she won't show up on Thursday. She came in to the workplace thirty minutes early to write a note to the boss saying she wouldn't be able to work that night. Night manager finds out what she's doing and tells her to call the boss. He asks if she can still work 5-7 (she was scheduled 4-close), and if so, he'd be in at 7 to finish her shift. Night manager was off at 7, ten minutes later, boss comes in. He's there about ten minutes, asks Psycho if she feels she can finish out the shift, then he leaves. Come to find out, she wanted to stay home so she could talk to some guy on the internet.

Anyway, to make a long story longer... I get to work today. Psycho Sally got out of working this morning. She told the boss she needed time to think and "clear her head." (I'd clear it with an uzi for her) The boss still wants me to work her 9-6 shift on Sunday, but she'd "be in to help with lunch."

What the $@* % &!@ *** ??? If she is capable of working, why do I have to be there?

Does anyone have a clue what my boss is thinking?

I KNEW I didn't want to go to work for a reason!
