This is going to be long, so bear with me.
My spiritual mother leads a poetry guild on Telegram. Telegram is not a good medium for this as it creates a two-tiered class system, between those who create and administer the channels/chats and those who participate.
For instance, if I wanted to gather a group of people together to talk about writing. I would first create a channel. Now, I can allow multiple people to post on this channel, but only those I allow can post. Everyone else is limited to comments. Basically like a blog. This makes the channels very 'me' focused, as blogs too are. The comments are part of a larger chat which is connected to the channel, making the entire chat (as you can surmise), also, 'me' focused. Depending on my popularity, I can potentially have over 10,000 chat participants focused solely on what 'I' want to discuss. Ergo, Telegram, draws in people with ego and personality disorders, creating 'cults of personality'. Even those who don't start out as such are tempted, as I fear my spiritual mother is being.
This is what ultimately broke us up. We have two different personalities, that can conflict when one of them becomes dominant as my mother's did. She even encouraged me to form my own channel and chat, but I refused as I knew that pride would be a pitfall I couldn't avoid. I have since left Telegram altogether. After I was no longer tracking with her desires for her channel and chat, there was no need for me to remain.
Our relationship didn't start out like this. We use to both be mere participants in another chat. Our breakup as sad as it is, was unavoidable given the nature of the medium.
What did she wish for her poetry guild to be geared toward? Politics, culture; in essence she's trying to save Western Civilization through poetry. Rightly, (well, mostly rightly, in the sense that this is how the dynamics of Telegram work), I got kicked for chit-chatting and voicing opinions that contradict hers. She tried to make it into more because she is prone (as I am too) of emoting what people say. So for instance, she would perceive me as being, nasty, hateful or out of control when I wasn't.
In truth, besides trolling, there is nothing at all different from how I behave here, and I have been here since before Telegram (under a different name), but the dynamics here are different. Christian Forums allows for diversity of thought and opinion on a wide range of topics (although people do tend to assume the emotions of others, here as well).
