CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The processes of planet and solar system formation are not readily apparent. They were certainly not fully known when Pluto was first discovered and labeled as a planet.

It has been done for Saturn. The same criteria have been used to determine if Saturn is a planet.

Saturn remained a planet from the initial decision. It wasn't temporarily removed and reclassified by adding a further descriptive label of what was apparent and apparently there when it was initially classified
Pluto was no longer a planet for a short time span and is now once again a planet
The only difference is now it is labeled a dwarf planet

You seem to be confused as to what happened. What the IAU voted on were a set of criteria to determine if an object was a planet or not. They never voted on whether Pluto was a planet or not.

Throughout my childhood Pluto was a planet
In my adulthood Pluto left the solar system
And was no longer a planet
That is how I saw it
I assumed someone made a decision

They made a decision to change the definition of what is and isn't a planet. They never voted on Pluto specifically.

They did vote on new definition for what is and isn't a planet. Included in that vote was a resolution as to how different objects fit those definitions, including Pluto.
So it has two parts. First, what is the definition of a planet. Two, does Pluto fit the definition of what that planet is. They also voted on whether the 8 planets fit the new definition of planet.
So, in effect, they did vote on Saturn that day as well.
