  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ah, poor little Pluto.

I bet London Bridge is feeling disgruntled because Tower Bridge is getting all the attention from the tourists. I mean, it's just not fair, is it?
It's not fair that you're not upright

Hey. There you go again
I don't even know what you mean by that

But here you are proving my point
What am I missing here? I'll have to go back and check, but aren't you the one who responds with scripture references?

Okay. But regardless of his size and distance, (in relation to the sun) he holds the same properties which were the criteria used to determine what makes a planet a planet

This is the IAU definition:

  1. is in orbit around the Sun,
  2. has sufficient mass to assume hydrostatic equilibrium (a nearly round shape), and
  3. has "cleared the neighborhood" around its orbit.

  1. IAU definition of planet - Wikipedia
Pluto doesn't meet the 3rd criteria. In effect, Pluto is a large asteroid found in the Kuiper belt.

Oh. Now I have to go back and reread your post

Apparently you were expecting some sort of response from me that I did not give

Rick, did you read laurele's two posts?

This was done in violation of their own policies.
laurele's two posts? I did not see any posts by "laurele". I would very much like to review the source of such information.

Why are you linking me to their policies, if they won't follow them themselves?
Please point out in my links where policy was not followed.

But NASA can make a recommendation.
I suppose so.

But it is odd how some people seem to think that NASA is this omnipotent instistution that has the monopoly on outer space.

Does Parliament arc & spark about it? is London Bridge made into a verb in mockery of its demotion to a footbridge? are there any engineers who disagree with its demotion? was it demoted by a rigged vote? do [supposedly] scientifically-minded people refuse to read two well-made posts as to why it was wrong to demote it, and just auto-deny the nay-sayers?

And if Pluto becomes a planet we will then have 110 planets by the new definition.
And laurele's posts addressed that, when she mentioned the Periodic Table of the Elements going from 10 elements to 120 (numbers may vary).

Someone redefine "bridge," post haste!
That would take a lot of work.

First, wait until all the engineers leave, then rig a vote not allowing them to voice any opinion, then pare the number of voters down to 4%, consisting of those who don't really deal with bridges, per se (cement workers, railing builders, painters), then cross your fingers and hope that most of the other 96%, will automatically agree, so you can call it "consensus of opinion".
