There was an article in the Jan-04 edition of the Computer Games magazine that hinted why the style of games like you're proposing usually do not do well. I have no idea if they're published in Norway, but I'd highly recommend trying to acquire a copy of it. (I can't find an on-line reference of it, nor do I have the magazine in my posession to 'reprint' it)

of course it wouldn't sell very well lol

i'm a gamer. i know what sells. i guess i could make a module with NWN, i just haven't got used to the development system.

one could gain points buy discovering false doctrines f.ex

This is speaking on the basis of an avid gamer, so don't flame me for it. To me, games portray make believe worlds that allow us temporarily "escape" our current world. Going on that basis alone, would a game that is based on the Biblical text not put that into a make-believe world?

good point, and yeah there is a game like the one you are proposing already. I forget the name of but it was released on the original 8-bit many, many years ago. I don't know. One would have to really make a fun christian game, and going around preaching to people really isn't the answer. Maybe we should start with the good old moral story plot first and work around that.

One of the main reasons for making a Christian game would be to get the message across, the second of course would be for entertainment. It needs to be exciting to draw in people from all cultures. I know that making a Christian-based game for the masses has a huge chance of failing, but I believe it can still be done. It would take a brain storming session to think of all of the intricacies to involve in the game, but I believe it should start out something like what weezerwannabe said. If the game starts out 'too Christian' it will just scare away casual gamers, and those are the ones we want to keep enveloped, right? So the game could start out like any RPG, continuing on like that for awhile, and slowly develop, and incorporate more spiritual Christian beliefs/aspects into it as the game goes on. Introduce incentives into the game for the good acts, without being too corny. Combat evil in all of its forms. The key is an intricate well developed plot. The opportunity is definitely there to make it.

good point. very good point.

now let's tell that to people making movies like "the last temptation of Christ", a film which I find both blasphemous and completely regardless of Scripture.

or...?

I'll have to take your word on that one. I don't watch much TV anymore (to much **** on now) and regrettably know little of the accuracy of that film. Given that it's Holly Wood, I could imagine it's been butchered and fluffed.

Why couldn't there be a game sort of like Grand Theft Auto, but have you doing good deeds instead..showing love for one another? Instead of stealing cars, you could drive elderly people to the doctors, feed the hungry, and visit people in prison. When driving around the city if you saw someone in need, you could help them out? Just a thought..

A Christian game would only hurt the Christian community, I feel.

Here's why:

Christian games in the past are complete jokes. Captain Bible is the only game I've ever played that I really enjoyed - and in retrospect, that's because I was 10.

In order to produce a respected, well-made game, one needs a developing team and a huge old budget. This simply could not be garnered for a Christian game - especially when you consider technological game developement as a part of the scientific geek community.

Anything less than a high-production game would attract only laughter. "Haha, look at those silly Christians."
Much as Christian music is generally lower quality than secular, and shunned of all worth by the secular world.

The two just simply don't mix. Really, when I play a game, I want it to be extraordinary. Not walking around preaching to people.

As a Calvinist, I also feel it would be outside of my doctorine and base too much on the person going around winnin' souls for Jesus.

Maybe an RPG you find your way in life to God and you "preach to sinners" (fight) and use your Bible knowledge against them have tools (weapons)like the bible, bible study book by C.s lewis etc. and have scriptures (spells) and in a fight you try to use your scriputre and Christian tools against them and gain more knowledge which will eventually bring up all your stats which allow you to perform better things for God...

I was going to say "It wouldn't be hard to make a mod for vice City to do that" and then I thought.... hey, just "borrow" the ambulance, and then you can do the missions where you go around picking people up from accidents.... or "borrow" the fire truck and you have to put out fires.

So there you go... it's alrerady built into the game. Good Deed City.

There are already a lot of games with "christian like" values. I think what the OP means is an honest to goodness game about being an actual Christian.

The revenue would be too low for anyone to make a game with good production values.

And really, Christianity isn't a game. It's not meant for entertainment. The stuff therein would maybe work as a text based RP (write sermons, such like that), but not a VG.

How about a game that is "like" cecular games but with a Christian Undertone.

I am thinking something set in the future.....

A space marine core is on a moon base setting up a new portal system

However, the portal leads to another dimension (ie the "spirital dimension") and those on the other side start coming through.

To beat the evil hords from Hell, our hero has to take his trusty Shotgun, ChainGun, rocket launcher etc and blast his way to hell and back to win.

....oops... is it me or has that "DooM"? lol
