  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

please pray

All is well... I'm just struggling with anxiety in a big way today.

My car has essentially been declared dead. I need to buy a new one ASAP. Problem is... I live alone, I don't know who to go to or where to look, what questiosn to ask, how to apply for anything from my license plate to insurance to a car loan... and I'm basically just freaking out.

I'm trying to trust G-d... and deep down I always do. However, I still have anxiety. I'm sure this means I'm not really trusting Him, right?

anywho, G-d reigns and He has blessed my life. I know I will be ok... this is just so sudden and unexpected.
I really miss my Dad. All of a sudden I'm tearing up because if he was still alive I could ask him to help me. But since I'm determined to be an adult... I guess this is my lot. I would not wish my father back to this earth... but I guess I just miss his wisdom.

ok so basically.... just pray for my sanity ;) i know it will be fine....

This happened to me the year before last. I had no money and my car died, and I had to cash in a savings plan early and use the money to buy a car.

This is going to sound mad but I used ebay (sorry for the advertising). I bought a cheap old car from a dealer, but it came with a year's guarantee, and that was good, because there were problems with it, but all sorted under the guarantee. But because it wasn't expensive, I thought if I can run it for a couple of years, it will be worth it.

I am not sure where you are, but in the UK the RAC and I think the AA both offer to look at cars and give you a report on their condition. If you can find an organisation like that, it might help you feel more confident.

I wish you well. I am sorry that you have lost your dad, but maybe you can still feel his love and protection, even if you have to do it alone this time.

 I am praying for you also. I miss my father a lot too - especially when something comes up that I know he could answer for me right away or that he would enjoy etc...
Is there anyone in your church or congregation who could help you out?
May the Lord guide you and be your peace. :prayer:

thanks cmo3. perhaps, but it's a small congregation 45 mins away. so i haven't been able to go for the past few weeks for various reasons (car related of course now). i think i'll be able to find something this next week perhaps. my mother knows a great dealership where she lives and she'll be looking there on monday. maybe that will make a good deal.

i've found a few good cars to look at. so narrowing it down to price and reliability has been my recent exercise.

I get faced with allot of anxiety too. I am alone but thank G-d I have my children. I am almost fourty but it is sometimes scary out there. I have a lease for my car but I've had friends that have got a few good years out of old beaters that they have spent only $1000 for. I think your best bet is to hang tight and find a friend with a really good cheap car. I don’t think I want to be stuck with something that depreciates so fast and is so expensive. I will not make that mistake again. Prayers are sent.

Be sure to go to your library and read up on the Consumer Reports car issue - usually in the spring of the year. It has repair reports of most brands of cars for the past 4-5 years and also recommendations of best buys in used cars. Definitely don't buy newer than 2-3 years old. And 100,000 highway miles are not as bad as 50,000 stop and go miles.

 I went through the same thing in March, and I know how stressful it is  But God was (and is!) faithful.....he really was there at my elbow, guiding & comforting me the whole time, and He will do the same for you. (What a great Dad! :) )

Someone told me that's it's better to go to car lots with a friend, not shop alone. And call and ask one or two of the older men in your cong. for advice. You have a right to ask, because God is a Father to the fatherless and He wants to provide that for you in practical ways.

Toyotas are supposed to be extremely reliable, even the older ones just seem to take a licking and keep on ticking :)

Good - make a list of reliable cars (or cars which need only the cheaper repairs - not transmissions or engines LOL) and good price ranges. You should be able to find a car cheaper than CR price range. Ivy's right - Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans can go at least 150K miles without major repairs so if you could find one of them with 100K miles and say 4 years old - deal hard and get it! Just keep saying "I've got so many $$ and no more - can you sell me the car for that amount." Stay strong, especially if you go alone (and you can do this alone - I did just last summer!). And firm - "No, I don't have more money than that". and eventually they'll meet your reasonably low price!
