  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We have put our house up for sale.  As much as I love my home and I'm not looking forward to moving again (I've lived in about 30 different places during my lifetime) and even though we said that this would be our last move   ... we realized after the last few visits by elderly family members that stairs can be a difficult obstacle ... so we are looking for something on one level.  Also, if we get something on one floor then we can revise our foster parent files to include handicapped children in wheelchairs/crutches.

Even though we've only been in our home two years - we can list our house for $30,000 more than what we paid for it.  After paying off the commission, what we owe on the loan, the five percent necessary to put down on another house and the expenses for two closings ... we could still have enough left over to cover house payments for one year (that is my goal - to have enough in savings to pay our house note in case something happened to my husband/his job) ... if we get the full price for our house.

The house we like is very close to the park/pool/walking trails and is within the same school district and the same mileage to my husband's job/our church.  We are going to look at it again tomorrow night and then decide on whether or not to put a contract on it.

So, I guess I'm asking for ya'll to intercede and light some candles for us, that we get a miracle price on the house we want to buy and that we get the full asking price on our house. :)  That's not too much to ask, is it?? :D

Thanks!

P.S.  What's the significance of candles?  Just curious =)

I'm not sure about the origins or theological basis, but there is just something special about lighting a candle after a prayer for intercession.

LilyLamb- I pray things work out.

Thank you VERY MUCH for your prayers.

I made some revisions to my prayer list this morning and printed out a new copy. I like to spend time in the morning - reading God's Word and praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.

I truly believe in the power of intercessory prayer.

I pray God's blessings on all of you.

Thanks again!

Is there a specific prayer or just to ask him to pray?

Just ask.  There is a ritual that some say borders on superstition...buy a small statue of him, have it blessed and bury it in your yard and ask him to pray for you in your time of need.  My parents did the statue thing and the house sold five days later.  However, if we would NOT have buried the statue and still asked for his intercession, I still believe the house would have sold.  I don't think trying the statue will hurt if you do it out of faith and not superstition.  Again, just ask ol' St. Joseph to pray to God that your house sells.

Oh and if you're wondering where this got its start, it was back during the Middle Ages when Nuns would need more land for convents, they would ask St. Joseph for his help.  Or so I read.....
