Do Baptist people belive in baptism of the Holy Spirit and would you believe me if I told you Jesus talked to me?? I have been baptist all my life. Now that this has happened to me, I'm confused.

I'm a Christian that attends a Baptist church, whether that makes me baptist or not I don't really care but I am certain of the belief in Baptism of the Holy Spirit as it occured in the Bible and also that Jesus speaks directly to us.
He spoke to me last night!

I do believe that God speaks to us...usually in a still small voice. However, if you said that Jesus spoke to you and told you to do something or told you that something would happen, I would question you and ask you more about it.

I would want to know how Jesus spoke to you. How you knew it was Jesus specifically. I would want to know more about what Jesus told you and how it affects others and how it lines up with God's word.

I believe that most of the communication God gives to us is very personal, and for our personal edification. When people start to tell others "God told me to do this" (the very words someone told me yesterday), I want to know more about that.

Why are they telling me that God told them this? Are they trying to impress me with their walk with God? Are they trying to put more authority behind this order? Are they rationalizing a decision? Exactly why are they saying this and exactly how do they know it is God? And then when they say Jesus told them something, how do they know it is Jesus?

I'm sorry to bring these questions up because it might offend some of you. But I think it is important to be level headed in our worship and our following of our Lord.

Well, JVD, you wanted to know what God told me. When I asked God to Baptise me in his Holy Spirit (after being saved and baptized in water for over 7 years) then, he came to me and gave me the most beautiful dream and I felt his beautiful, wonderful spirit (kinda like warm electricity) he he.....(I will go into detail with this if you want me to - I'll tell only if you ask) THEN......
This is a very touchy subject. I hope nobody gets mad at me for saying what I am about to say. I am 22, young, stupid, and still learning. ha ha. I was smoking something green and illegal and always thought it was "just a plant grown by God himself" and that there was no harm in it....just like a cigarette. MAN, did GOD get MAAAD at ME!!!!! He told me to get rid of everything in my house having to do with this subject, even if it had a picture of it on something. I threw away a picture, a poster, a t-shirt, earrings, you name it. I didn't know I was doing anything wrong!! As soon as I got done doing this....God said I was inviting demons into my house by doing this and by being around people who do this or being around the drug itself. He said I could bring demons home just by BEING AROUND it at somebody elses home!! Well, needless to say, I have totally closed that chapter in my life. I will never do ANYTHING the Lord doesn't want me to do. It scared me to death.....and then that night when I went to sleep, I had a dream that this green devil was in my room - and God said, "You have to leave now. She is with you no longer" - and the demon (very very very scary looking and sounding) screamed like a pig and left my room. -and then the Lord let me know that I had been delivered.

......but now this seems to open my eyes to things I have never believed and I don't know if I should change churches or not.. I'm really confused and it makes my blood pressure go up just talking about it. ugh

I had something similar but niot that dramatic happen to me concerning smoking the legal stuff. For years I lied to everyone about wanting to quit, and would rush out of church to get home to smoke. One day I felt like a deep anguish in my conscience about it. So after trying to deny it (raise your hand if you have tried to deny the Holy Spirit) I through out the pipe and tobacco. After one day I was feeling pretty cocky and said to myslef, see you proved you could do it, that is what counts.

So I went and bought more. Big mistake. Have you ever had your whole being feel mad, or how do I say it, guilty. I knew it was wrong and I could not enjoy the pipe.

I got on my knees and asked God to be with me everyday, as I quit, and you know what, I not only quit without the usual problems (or the patch) but I lost 30 pounds.

July 1st was my one year anniversary

So yeah I believe God does talk to us. I have another story but i will save that for another time

Sure thing I carried an ID braclet, a gift from a former girlfriend, as a goodluck charm. No matter what I did I had this charm on my person. When I went to bed I even tucked it into my shorts waistband. It was like a security blanket of sorts. Anyway it never dawned on me that this thing could be considered an idol.

One night in a deep sleep I felt someone, and something tell me in an audible voice; "You know, you don't need that anymore". Without hesitation I sat straight up and new what the person was talking about. I took it out of my waistband and tossed it in the trash.

In the morning I dug it out and put it one the dresser, "just in case". Big mistake. A few days later it was gone to the dump. Unknowingly my wife was jealous of this thing, in fact she thought I had a thing for the ex because I always carried it with me(of course she did not tell me this till afterwards). So it made my wife happy and I haven't felt the need to carry any charms or what not ever again.

Was it God? Maybe. Coulda been an Angel for all I know, but it was real and I appreciate it still today. So does my wife

It is a tough addiction for sure. I will pray that you get the same help I did. I don't miss it one bit, and I never thought I would ever say that.

I believe the Lord called on me 10 years ago to stop doing drugs. He warned me it was against His will. Thank you Jesus! I cant even imagine what my life would have been like, but I do know I would have probably kept on in my ways if I hadn't been called by Him.

On more than one occasion I have had similar experiences. I believe that God was talking to me and the message he gave me was very plain to me. And the message was very needed by me at the time. But I did not hear a voice so much as sense a message.

So I am not going to question your experience. I do believe God speaks to us. But I also question the statements of some who seem to be very glib about "God told me this" or "God told me that"...as if that is it and can't be questioned.

We are to test the spirits. If the message is obviously in accordance with God's word than that is good. If there is some ambiguoty (sp ?), then we need to wonder. And I think when someone says that God tells them something that effects someone else, it better be checked out well.

I had someone tell me yesterday that God told them to move to my town. So he called me because I am a christian realtor and asked me to show him houses. The problem was that God has not told his wife about this move. It makes me wonder if he is using this as leverage to convince his wife or if it is really true. I guess only time will tell.

My friend said when God wants married people to know something, (in her experiences) he tells BOTH of them - but I'm not an expert at what God does. ha ha ha.
