• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please Help - Trying to Study Romantic Preferences

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out about why people's attitudes towards what is attractive differ so much from one person to the next. I designed a pair of surveys for the purpose of studying this, and Martinius suggested I should try here in the Society forum.

May I post links to the surveys in this thread?

Thanks,
Mark

OK. Here are the surveys; select whichever is appropriate.

To be able to post links or images your post count must be 50 or greater. You currently have 3 posts.

Please remove links from your message, then you will be able to submit your post.

Hm. All right; 50 posts first.

(Incidentally, I had no idea when I created these surveys what a strange journey this would be. I've posted on forums dedicated to webcomics, motorcycles, romance novels, vegetarianism, and science fiction TV shows, and people act so differently from one place to another, it's almost like visiting different countries. If I seem overly polite, it's because I've learned one very important thing already - you can never tell beforehand whether what you say will offend someone else's sensibilities!)

I thought there are certain standards that are pretty much universal from culture to culture. For example, how narrow a woman's waistline should be to be most appealing does not vary much. I don't recall any specific referrences, however.

Yes indeed, the ideal Waist to Hip Ratio is ~.70. Yet individual men place a different value on their personal ideal WHR (and my own ideal is not .70). I'm trying to study how individual people's ideas of attraction vary, not what is average - one has only to turn on the television to see what is typically desired.

Also, my son likes this smilie::liturgy:

And this one:

Give us the name of the website and / or the Google search terms required to find it. If I find it, I'll post the link.
Hm; that feels dishonest. After all, I'm on a Christian forum, and what does Paul say about obeying the laws of the land? But if you like, I'll try sending the link in a PM to you personally.

Your son likes dudes with wings for ears?

Hm; that feels dishonest.

The "no links till 50" is to avoid spammers. You do not appear to be a spammer, thus it would not be dishonest to the spirit of the law

I tried to do the survey, but I couldn't do the second page. It was a little too general, or there should be a N/A: for instance, glasses are neither a turn-on or turn-off to me; also, black clothes? If they're neat, great, but if they're dirty or oversized, ick. I think it should be more of a "click on the things that are definite turn-ons" or along that line.

Alas, no scores yet - this is a study designed to test a hypotheses, not an Internet survey I slapped together merely to entertain.

But if you like, you are vain, Targ. Deeply, Narcissistically vain.

Thank you! ^_^

Actually, at least 75% of my answers correspond to what my wife is like. :D

Done the survey.
I made a couple of notes at the end of pages where it was relevant, but might I suggest something missing from the 'turn ons/offs' page for women?
What about brown hair in general, as distinct from black? You risk missing out on data about those who like chestnut hair!

Hope it's going well- how many responses have you had so far?

You have a cool avatar.

So far I have 66 responses for "in a Woman" and... 68 for "in a Man." Unfortunately only about three quarters of the responses represent complete surveys. I only need a few more completed surveys before I'll have my goal of 50 completed surveys for "In a Woman;" it will take about ten more to give me 50 for "in a Man."

I'll post the results when the analysis is finished.
