• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

John Bunyan experienced the same thing we are going through and the Lord led him through it all. I am begging you guys and girls to go read John Bunyan. This guy really helped my life and he can help you too. It's as if Jesus used Bunyan for all those who would suffer like him.

First read a quick intro on his life from wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bunyan

John Bunyan wrote:
The Pilgrims Progress

John Bunyan said that he realized Jesus was all his righteousness, yesterday, today, and forever! And that He sits at the right hand of God. That makes our obsessions and compulsions meaningless compared the riches of Jesus.

Proverbs 28:13
He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Psalms 145:17-18
17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

I am praying for you guys/gals tonight!

I believe God used the weaknesses in these men for His strength. Think of how much each of these men contributed to our depth of understanding of Christ. Luther didn't want to start a reformation. Bunyan went to prison for boldly preaching the Gospel. Clearly, they had great faith that co-existed with their ocd and God used them beyond what they even imagined.

Maybe God is at work in us in spite of (or precisely because of our "weakness"). We might not even be aware of it. We might even be reluctant, such as these examples....

I've read pilgrims progress, but I also want to read "Grace abounding.
I recently read a sermon by Charles Haddon Spurgeon where he talked about how he suffered from periods of Depression. It encouraged me too even though his mental disorder was a bit different from mine.
Ditto to what Mark said about God using our afflictions. I used to always say God was able to use me "in spite of" my affliction but now I'm learning to say like Paul that because of my affliction, "The Power of Christ rests upon me, because when I am weak, He is strong."
