Please explain to a non SDA

Hi, would SDAs please interpret this passage for a non SDA, thanks.

The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan:​

"Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above, are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort, they must be conquerors in the battle with evil ". (p 425)
"In that fearful time the righteousness must live in the sight of a holy God without an intercessor" (p. 614)

Confused. Is this gap of time in which people must be "spotless" between the investigative judgment and the second coming? I guess I always thought Jesus would return immediately after the investigative judgment was complete. I guess it makes sense that there will be more no blotting out of sins after Jesus leaves the sanctuary.

come to think about it, it seems a little unfair, imagine all those people who lived before never had to be perfect or spotless, but the endtime remnant people have to be spotless without the help of God...

Just to clarify my question, I copied this from a website outlining SDA beliefs and there is a gap of several pages between these two statements as you can see. I'm hoping an SDA will explain what this means to them.

like the passages claim, in that time, there will be no intercessor, no mediator for human beings...

I cant rightly say that I believe or even understand the passage as the bible says that Jesus will allways be there for us, until the end of the world.

but anyhow, the whole things results in a paranoid scheme. you have to work to your salvation, getting rid of each and every sin, attaining perfect character and stuff, before that time we can go back to Jesus and ask for forgiveness, in that time this option will not be available and from what I understand, if we sin during that period, we will be lost forever...

quite a fearful prospect, if u ask me...

When the third angel's message closes, mercy no longer pleads for the guilty inhabitants of the earth. The people of God have accomplished their work. They have received "the latter rain," "the refreshing from the presence of the Lord," and they are prepared for the trying hour before them. Angels are hastening to and fro in heaven. An angel returning from the earth announces that his work is done; the final test has been brought upon the world, and all who have proved themselves loyal to the divine precepts have received "the seal of the living God." Then Jesus ceases His intercession in the sanctuary above. He lifts His hands and with a loud voice says, "It is done;" and all the angelic host lay off their crowns as He makes the solemn announcement: "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still." Revelation 22:11. Every case has been decided for life or death. Christ has made the atonement for His people and Page 614

blotted out their sins. The number of His subjects is made up; "the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven," is about to be given to the heirs of salvation, and Jesus is to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.
When He leaves the sanctuary, darkness covers the inhabitants of the earth. In that fearful time the righteous must live in the sight of a holy God without an intercessor. The restraint which has been upon the wicked is removed, and Satan has entire control of the finally impenitent. God's long-suffering has ended. The world has rejected His mercy, despised His love, and trampled upon His law. The wicked have passed the boundary of their probation; the Spirit of God, persistently resisted, has been at last withdrawn. Unsheltered by divine grace, they have no protection from the wicked one. Satan will then plunge the inhabitants of the earth into one great, final trouble. As the angels of God cease to hold in check the fierce winds of human passion, all the elements of strife will be let loose. The whole world will be involved in ruin more terrible than that which came upon Jerusalem of old.

This is taken from pg 613-614. To me it sets the time of standing without an intercessor as close of probation (when the seal of God and the mark of the beast are set). When there will be no more choosing sides. Just are just, wicked are wicked. This is the time right before Jesus returns. At least that is the best summary I can give with what little time I have to post. Hopefully someone may be able to elaborate a little more.

It goes back to the Bible verse:

Revelation 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

Why would you need an intercessor when Christ has already declared you righteous?

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

and "By their fruits shall ye know them." Some people seem to feel that their sins are too strong, or big for God to handle. Others prefer to wallow in sin and skate in.

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

This speaks about a short period in the history of salvation after the close of probation when the entire mankind has decided either for or against Christ and before the 2nd advent.

We work out our own salvation with fear and trembling if we do not forget that it is God who is to work in us both to will and to do... Phil.2:13.

God will work in us both to will and to do His good pleasure only if we believe that the merits of Christ's sacrifice are sufficient to present to Him in our behalf.

To live without an Intercessor during the time of Jacob's trouble does not mean that God will not be with us at that time if we are among this illustrious company of people (the 144,00). It simply means that by that time we will have received the final seal which means that we will be relfecting the character of Christ fully and we cannot be moved. The latter rain will have strengthen us to go through that time and all our sins will have gone before hand to judgment.

During that time the 144,000 will be trusting and resting in the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour and they will be kept by the power of God as they will go through some terrible agony. They will drink of the cup that Jesus drank in Gethsemane and at last, at the time of the fifth plague, when the wicked are about to execute the death decree upon them, they will be delivered by the voice of God.

Well that is the end, so it goes to follow as Christ is coming he is not in heaven doing the work of intercessor.
