  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please explain these circles...

The church we've been attending has Rebekah and Ruth Circles. One member approached me today and invited me to the Rebekah Circle meeting. What's the difference between these circles?
We just LOVE everything (and everyone) about this church! We had a good, but brief, intro to the pastor, and she's a gem - a former Catholic like ourselves, so I think we found the perfect person to answer our questions and understand where we're coming from.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the differences because they appear to be two separate entities. I don't know if it is an age-related difference, where Rebekah Circle targets the younger mothers/wives, or what. I should have asked. Regardless, I'm really eager to participate in any of their numerous activities and charity events!

What I'm most pleased about is how incredibly active ALL ages are in this church. The church is affiliated with a large Lutheran-based retirement home system in our area and the circle(s) seems to constantly have some activity with them.

Oh, and yesterday was a Youth Sunday. The kids' participation was amazing. Strong in numbers and in spirit. It was soooo good to see the younger generations who are going to be the future of the church.

Hey LS,
i am thinking of joining our Rachel circle! I called the church yesterday to ask about the different circles (there are 4 at my church) and was told that the Rachel circle is the one that tends to have younger moms with kids and would be a good fit for me! They meet once a month and they just so happen to be meeting TONIGHT!! So, i am going to check it out and go to the Bible Study/meeting. I will let you know what it was like.
Have you attended a circle yet? If so how did you like it?

That's great, Tulip! Hope the meeting went well. Let us know what you did - it seems like they all have something good.

I know our Rebekah Circle has a boutique sale next month, and I'm looking forward to that. I missed our meeting because I have a class during their once-monthly meeting. :(

PS, what were the other three circles? Differences?

there are 4 womans circles at my church and i am not sure if there are any differences besides the days and times they meet. one meets in the mornings, one meets at different peoples houses, and the other 2 meet at church (ours). I went to the Rachel Circle meeting. There were 6 woman there. (i am told there are 14 members of the Rachel circle but that not everyone can show up every month).

The meeting went from 7pm till 9:20pm. We introduced ourselves, said a prayer, had about an hour long bible study, then discussed the upcoming Rummage Sale and the Upcoming Mom and Kids banquet and decided on menu items for it. They passed a list around for volunteers for the Rummage sale for set up, take down and baking stuff for the workers. They passed around a sign up sheet for altar set up and take down of communion for the month of April because i guess it is Rachel Circle's month for altar care. Then after all the business was done we had desserts and coffee and green ginger ale (for St. Patricks day), also homeade Irish Soda bread and Green Oreo cookies (mint) and some brownies. (a Definite st. patricks day theme). We chatted for about 35 mins while eating.
i am glad i went and got to know some woman from the church. i really enjoyed it.
