  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please direct me if this is the wrong thread

Is there a good discussion about Sin on this site? I want to discuss scriptures and literally hammer out what sin(specifics) is? I believe in God and I don't claim anything except the fact that I want to love God with all my heart, mind and soul. Nothing else... Anyhow I wish to discuss sin... Am I in the right place?

You are probably in the right place.

Sin is anything that separates you from God. Therefore, sin can mean anything.

If you're looking for a shopping list there are any number of people/churches who will only be too happy to provide you with one.

See, God wants our attention 100% of the time. We all fail this requirement so there is no use trying to get a list that you feel comfortable with - we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. We all fail.

But through God's Grace we are not fallen creatures. So, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, apologize and get going.

Not looking for a list... I'm just want to define it.... I want to know what it is. I'm not looking for a shopping list. I'm looking to understand what it is. I've had bad experience with asking the church because the list isn't in the word. That's why I'm looking to discuss what it is.

Try this link instead: Hamartiology - it's part of the "General Theology" board.

Wow, I just looked there. Overwhelming. I like the idea of just talking about it from a "scriptures" standpoint.

I popped in because the title of this thread reminds me of a message I heard once that implied that the earliest Jewish concept of sin was as an entity. I think it was based on God's words to Cain -
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"If you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." (Gen 4:6)

As an English teacher, when I look at that verse, I just see personification, but I don't know how common that device was in ancient Hebrew writing.

I'd like to know some serious thoughts about that.
