If a loved one shows mental, emotional, and physical irregularity, please check-in on them. It may be symptoms of something far worse.
A nervous breakdown is a mental, emotional, & physical shutdown. It may develop over years, months, or days. Mood, appetite, health, sleep, sex drive, mental capacity etc can all be affected. Un or mistreated it can result in death. It is highly recommended if symptoms are manifest for a 4 - 8 days, consult Mayo Clinic, NIH.GOV, or your hospital of choice and seek medical support. A weeks delay could add months to recovery. Classic anxiety; finances, health, love, etc... or depression; physical, drug, or behavioral is often the cause. I have a nephew who had a collapse in law school from academic/exam stress. He was hospitalized for 3 nights and it took him months to recover. His collapse rendered his speech and communication barely coherent, mostly confused, for a week. He did complete law school and has a fine, none-legal, profession.
My brother-in-law developed anxiety over things of life. He became more and more agitated, annoyed with everything, and had frequent outbursts of anger. He was too proud to seek help for the problems or the emotions that were overwhelming him. He developed insomnia, lost function, and had to leave work. He refused to work with counselors. As his anxiety and depression accelerated his breakdown he felt more guilt and it fed on its self. Suicide attempts, inpatient care, etc insued. He died before 50 for lack of insulin. He was a diabetic for 20 years ...... He was difficult but the emptiness in his eyes and the pain his disease left in its wake with wife, children, parents, friends, and neighbors was devastating. If you think you know someone heading toward a breakdown for more than 4-8 days, please contact someone.
