  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It occasionally freezes when I enter the save screen for "Harvest Moon: Back To Nature."

I checked the Gamefaqs thing on this, and it was very unhelpful. I am not using the PAL or pirated editions of the game, I'm using the NTSC/UC version and I bought it at a reputable store. It says that the freezes occur randomly, mine only froze when I entered the save screen, before I could save.

Is this a problem with the game itself? With my Playstation (it has happened sometimes with other games over the last year or so)? With my memory card?

Thanks for your help. -^.^-

if it only happens in the one game in the one place then its probably not a hardware problem. nor is it likely to be a user error, so that leaves software. check your CD for any scratches that look worrying, it sounds like this is a possiblity. that would explain why it ony happens in the one place.

Maybe it is due to the CD being smudged/scratched. Or, because each time the game enters the save screen, the PSX is told by the game to check the memory card for space and/or previous saved games, and a freeze-up could definitely occur if the memory card has errors or is malfunctioning or broken. Also, the save screen and related game data may be on a place near the inside or outside data tracks on the CD which your PSX's laser/eye has trouble reading from now.

Have you tried placing the PSX upside-down on a phonebook with the PSX partially over one side of the book, for access to the power button? Many of the earlier Playstation's laser/eye was not manufactured correctly, and the laser/eye could not read the data off of the CD tracks very well and would freeze-up frequently; but placing the PSX upside-down caused the laser/eye to be closer to the CD and much less freeze-ups occur. This problem was fixed (atleast, supposedly) in the post-1997 Playstations.

Ofcourse, the save screen freeze-ups could be a (little-known) bug in that game, or your CD is just faulty/defective.

Also, depending on how long and what you have done to your Playstation it could be the PS too because maybe it just has a problem loading that particular type of screen due to earlier abuse or wear and tear. One time I accidently opened my lid while the game was on and my PS froze during games it used to not freeze on for a whole week after it happened.
