Plastic Mask
What mask should I wear today?
Which piece of plastic to cover my pain?
To hide who I am, to be who you want
An attempt to look on the outside like something I'm not
Do you want someone strong?
A solid rock to lean on?
Or do you want someone soft and tender?
Whatever you want, I'll try to be her...
Do you want someone always on the go?
Or should my pace be steady and slow?
What mask do you want? What shape? What color?
What size? What style? For what kind of weather?
On the outside I can always be who you will
I can keep this act going, keep pretending, but still
I am who I am, no matter how hard I try
To cover up who God made me inside
Eventually, I think, it all will show through
The good, the bad, and the God things too
I want come out, to let myself show
Because only then can I truly grow
Will you let me be who I am?
I want to come out, and with love, I can.
