Whats yalls take on using kazaa and stuff to download music, movies, etc?

Some might see it as stealing from artists.

But in most cases, thinking Christian here, the people we steal from are greedy lust-inducing disrespectful media entertainers that deserve to be stolen from.

Situational irony? Stealing 48 pop/rap/rock songs to burn to CDs for a friend, using the money from those CDs to support local underground metal bands. I'd say it's fine no matter what, and if you're giving back to the music you enjoy, all the better.

The Last CD i really wanted to have was WOW Worship, and because I wanted the real version, a payed 45 bucks for it..(canadian dollars)

It's copyright infringement, not stealing. In other words, a civil offense, not a crime. It is an economic substitute, and helps competition. Thus, it is good.

First off, there is such a thing as criminal copyright violation.

Secondly, a great deal of economic damage is covered by civil law rather than criminal law.

If you don't think the price is fair, don't buy the thing. If this leaves you without something, well, go without. Even apart from any legal consideration, the human capacity for self-deception is incredible; if you allow yourself to steal only those things you don't think you would have paid for, you will tend to underrate your willingness to buy things - so you will sometimes be stealing stuff you would have paid for.

In short, it's a bad deal. Don't go there.

There is no significant difference between pirating music and pirating, say, the complete text of a book, or anything else. Creative artists of any sort are paid if and only if their creative works are purchased.

You can listen to radio and capture songs on cassette.

You can capture steaming audio on the comp.

No problem with filesharing. I do it on a regular basis.

There isn't a moral issue here. Mp3 Technology and the Internet is like VCR and blank tape. Put them, a TV and a man in the same room, you can't blame the outcome..

Well, yeah, but it's at least $1000+ for that (I've also seen $6000, but the figure's changed recently because of the DMCA I think).

Or, I can revel in the fact that because of the extremely rampant piracy in Thailand, I could get games there for the equivalent of about $15 because they were generally sold right next to the pirated CDs for about $3-$5. It also caused Sony to reduce the prices of their PS2 games as they begin their PS2 launch in China (yes, they said that this was to combat piracy). So tell me how this is not a good thing for consumers?

Well actually it could be bad for consumers when they jack up prices after wasting money on useless copyright protections and lobbying congress to impose stupid laws. Of course, by doing that, it just makes the economic substitute that much better...

I support it fully, if I don't like the items being stolen-generally if it is not classical, then I hate it.

I hope that so many people steal rap, rock, and pop songs that all of those crappy artists go out of business.

Pfft. The record companies and rock stars are so bloody wealthy, it's fine to pirate media. Especially considering that it costs like maybe a dollar to manufacture one CD but they sell it for twenty.

Those artists should skip the RIAA and go to companies like Magnatune, who give the artists 50% of the revenue, allow us to try the MP3s, and actually let us buy entire albums based on how much WE want to pay (so you can choose to pay anywhere $5-$18, with $8 being the recommended).

Furthermore, when you buy it, besides the MP3, you can also choose to download it as WAV and FLAC files too, so you can burn it on a CD with no quality loss at all.

The problem with buying CDs is most of the time, unless it's Rob Zombie or a mix, you wind up hating 80% of the album. Burning is practical.
