The funnest pirates stragety I've played was Pirates! They're coming out with a remake later this year.

Other fun "pirate" style games that are out:

Sea Dogs 1 & 2
Port Royale
Tortuga: Pirate Hunter (Port Royale with a face lift)

Port Royale is great game, Until you lose the map in a house move

I'm very happy about the pirates remake I lost many a hour to that game on the amiga, actually it was more like month to it.

I'm s'prised no ones mentioned the wonderful Cutthroats, a great game I'd playing if for some reason (prolly xp) it didn't pause everytime a sound was made.

Sid Meier's Pirates! I had it on the amiga and it roolz!

HaHaHa!! I found that on an abandonware site, I downloaded it and played it on my 3.0 GHz P4!! It was probably one of the most annoying games that I have ever tried to play! And the music was enough to make a person cry!

I'm not sure if this counts, but FreeLancer is a pirate game in many aspects. You can be a space-pirate. So..yeah. Heheheheheheheheheheheheheheheh.

I tried to get another favourite amiga game to work from abandonware site, well the pc version, it was Legends of Valor, apparently my pc is too good for it, its tempting to buy a old pc just to play it,

Pirates of the Caribbean is a great game on xbox. On it you get to sword fight adn shoot guns adn cannons. You can sail ships. Its a great game all around.

I just rented it and having played it.... There definately better games.

There's a Sega Genesis version which is better, and not too hard to find now with an emulator. The PC version was one of the first games I ever purchased.

I enjoy it for nostalgia, but it doesn't hold up well with more modern games.
