In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. My daughter came down with her first case of pink eye after her first week at this new daycare.

Ugh... this stuff is horrible. She's got such a bad infection around her eyes. Too much puss.

You guys make sure you wash your hands after you've done typing on the keyboards. My thread might be contagious. LOL

What's pink eye?

Is it the same thing as conjunctivitis?

It's pretty normal for kids in day care (especially when they are new to it) to get infections, because the immune system needs building up.

My son doesn't go to day care, and still managed to get conjunctivitis 3 times last Winter.

:( sorry to hear that, yeah pink eye is very contegieous an everbodies liable to end up wit it. It's an annoyin deal isn't it? If you've ever had it anyways. I know day cares are needed for alot of folks but that's one the thins that jes drives me nuts. You try as a parent to do everthin right make sure your childs in tip top care an then you have to send em into a war zone of sickness an what not. Everone's gotta go through it I guess an I guess the plus side of it is that they can end up with a better immune system in the end but the inbetween times is the killer.

Well, the problem I see with the concept that pink eye builds your immune system is that you don't develop an immunity. Actually, I am shocked that the daycare allowed the child with pink eye to stay for that week. Ah well, at least it is a minor problem, majorly annoying, but a minor problem.

As far as I'm aware, kids aren't allowed to stay at the daycare if they have a contagious infection. This one must've slipped by them I guess.

I can't even bring her in today, so I'm at home with her.

What makes matters worse is that she was cursed with my super-long eyelashes, so when she woke up this morning they were literally glued together.

What's really bad is when Mom or Dad gets it! LOL! These sweet kids tend to deal with it lots better than we adults do. :)

The only time we've had it around here, my little girl and my niece both had it a week apart. I tried so hard to wash my hands really good everytime I cleaned their faces or washed their eyes for them, but I still got it---in both eyes! Yuk! It's painfull, too, causing headaches and such a scratchy eye feeling. It made me feel so much worse for them, realizing just how uncomfortable it is. Can't see very good either with so much "goop" in your eyes.

Our school sends the kids home when they have it, but by the time it's noticed it's already been spread around. This is really catchy stuff!

Man... pinkeye isn't even the biggest of my problems.

I've never had chickenpox, so I'm just waiting for my death sentence the day the little girl comes home with it.

Maybe it's time I start inquiring about vaccinations for Chickenpox.

Actually, you may be immuned to chicken pox, even without ever having it. I am, and I never had it. I just went to the doc and told her that I had never had it, they did a blood test and sure enough, I was immuned.
or maybe we were both part of an experimental scientific study back in the 70s!!

I feel for your daughter. My son who is two had pink eye a year and half ago because his sister brought it home from school but she did not catch it Thank The Lord! None of us caught it except him and he was a really good about it. He has long eyelashes too. My dad never has had the chickenpox. My brothers and I all had them and my dads brothers and sisters did but he never caught them. I think he might be immune to them.

Use a warm really wet (not dripping) washcloth in the mornings to clean the mat from his eye. Poor lil' guy! During the day try to keep him from rubbing it - that's really the hardest part! Wash your hands everytime you clean it, and keep his hands clean too. I hope that he's feeling better soon!

Get the shot. It's really bad for males to get it later in life.

My daughter had it a few months ago...really yucky stuff. The best thing that I found to make her eyes feel better is something my grandmother told me years ago (when I had it)...a warm washcloth wet with salt water. For some reason it seems to help with both the itchiness and the pus.

We also had to take her to the doctor (her school required a doctor's note in order for her to return) and she was given antibiotic eye drops. That was a screaming match every night to try and give her those. She HATED them. The warm washcloths went over much better.

BTW, I've never had chickenpox, either.
