Hello everyone! My name is Michael Paul Hughes, and my username, Ignissus, is Latin for "Firebrand". God gave me this name when I became a follower of Christ. I had never heard it before, so I looked it up in Latin and found the definition. It describes my calling in the Body of Christ. I have been called to carry a torch through the indwelling Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, to ignite or reignite passion for for the Most High God, YHWH, in the hearts and minds of the church as the world bows its knee to all forms of idolatry within the world. I am a sinner, saved by grace alone and not by my own works, but I believe that there is a sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit for those who continue on with the Lord, keeping vigil for His Second Coming and attending to his or her Maker as a disciple. I believe that no man or woman knows the day or the hour of Christ's return, but we should all conduct our lives in a manner that is similar to a Bride keeping watch for the Bridegroom, whom she does not know the hour of his arrival.
My goal in life is to reach out to the outcasts and "least of these" brethren of Jesus Christ to primarily encourage, teach, and prophesy concerning the hope of discipleship and the reality that the Kingdom of Heaven is "at hand" as Jesus Christ states in the Gospel and that it is is "within us."
Teachers of the Word who I enjoy listening to are those such as: Bishop N.T. Wright of the Anglican Church; Bishop T.D. Jakes of the Pentecostal Church, Evangelist Billy Graham; the late Preacher Adrian Rodgers in the Southern Baptist stream; Dr. David Jeremiah from Turning Point Ministries; Charles Stanley, and many others. I believe there are meaningful Christian expressions of God's Grace from all different backgrounds and denominations, as long as they hold to the professions of faith found in the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed. I reject the "evolution" of Scripture interpretation that "changes" with the change of culture, and I only hold to the soundness of Biblical thought as it was interpreted by the Church leaders through Apostolic Succession to the best of my finite comprehensive ability. I must decrease and Christ must increase. I do, however believe that other disciples than the Apostles can and are used by the Holy Spirit and filled with the Holy Spirit to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. This view can be supported by this passage of Scripture:
Mark 9:38-42 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. 41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. 42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
The Holy Bible: King James Version. (2009). (Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version., Mk 9:38–42). Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.
I subscribe to Orthodox Christian Teachings, but am currently attending church at the Traditional Branch of the United Methodist Church amidst the changes that have been taking place in which Methodism is branching off between more liberal views, and some churches, such as my church, are remaining under the traditional understanding of Holy Scripture that dates back through the time of John Wesley's Ministry and subsequent spiritual roots.
If anyone would like to connect to some encouraging posts of mine regarding faith and spiritual encouragement feel free to follow me on instagram @Ignissus27
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you all richly in all things.
