  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was just curious if anyone had read Pierced by a Sword by Bud Macfarlane Jr. A friend recommended it to me and I was considering getting it. Is it any good?

Yes i have read it. It was pretty good. It's refreshing to read fiction with a straight forward Catholic world view.

my wife and I both read it, great book. I do not generally read novels, but it was good enough to keep my attention.

Dearest joy in Christ,

Christ is Risen!

I read the book, but it is rated R or X in my opinion.

It was a thriller but frankly, I liked the Left Behind series better, because I knew Left Behind is all fiction. Bud is too realistic and scary when it comes to satan scenes which gave me nightmares. I'd say to stay away and read the true biographies or autobiographies of saints. Some saints led lives that were stranger than fiction. Read the life of St. Dominic for instance or St. Martin de Porres. BTW: St. Martin is also known as the flying monk.

I'm sorry it caused such problems for you, chanterhanson. :( I hope that you are feeling better now.

Dearest Joy in Christ, Humblejoe:

Christ is in our midst!

Yes, the prayers of the priest were very powerful and effective. Now, I stay away from anything demonic including fictional works and movies.

BTW: Look at the prayers to St. Michael by St. John of Damacus which I posted on the thread: patron saint prayers #17 here on the One Bread One Body forum. Those really helped me resist the devil.
