I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I REALLY need some advice/answers...
This morning I went to physical therapy for the second session with my new PT. I have been to this place before, actually for about 4 months two years ago and I just started up again with the same PT before i left for Europe. Well, she got offered a job somewhere else and the new PT is totally not as good.
Anyway, today she said she wanted to massage deeper. The entire back of my right leg from the knee down is chalk full of scar tissue. In case you don't know, rubbing that even with the slightest amount of "deep" in mind HURTS so badly. I've gotten used to it over time...but it still is excruciating.
Point of my story...today she used this technique that I've only had done once by the old PT years ago. it involves a 1/2 circle blade thing...I have no clue what it is or how to describe it really. it's sort of like a taco folded in 1/2 but...really hard and I think it's not hollow. Anyway, she ran it up and down my leg really hard and every time it came to a bump she would push it harder into my skin and go quicker, not even stopping over the bumps. I'm sure she thinks this is going to break up scar tissue but I have serious doubts about the logic. anyway, it hurt more than anything I've ever had done to me at PT (except when I was 8 a PT I had, left me on stim on the highest voltage for 20 minutes. ahhh unbarable.) It was horrible. My leg was red and splotchy with white lines and circles and stuff. She did it to the front of my leg too.
I do not admit that things hurt to other people, mostly PT's...like I'll tell my dr if something hurts but that's it. That's just the way I am. I have one more app. with her so I'll have to have it again I think. but has anyone ever heard of this? did it hurt you too?
I now have red and white "cuts" all over my leg and it's 11:37 PM (my app was 9:30 this morning) and I have some bruising around the inside of my foot, over my scar...ahhhh what the heck?! she said my leg/ankle would probably be "sensitive to the touch" but really...are you kidding me? Is this normal?! I have no clue. The other time it didn't hurt at all but maybe it's because my PT was just learning it?
help!
