  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

No. There are plenty of photographers who do not do a formal study of photography.

Learn the technical stuff as well as possible, then photograph a lot. Also, expose yourself to art galleries that include photographers. Also, subscribe to magazines. I like like Digital Photo Pro and American Photo and Shutterbug. Join a photography forum where you can discuss photography. Also join a photography club/association if one is near you.

That said, I am a fine art photography major at a community college. I have been able to receive scholarships for my work that have helped pay for some of the classes. I have enjoyed my time there very much.

There is a mail order school called New York Institute of Photography you could try without spending a whole lot of money. You might want to check it out even though you think you don't want to pursue an education. They have a diploma program that is priced very reasonably and you work at your own pace (reasonably).
