  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Stuart scratches his head and works out what happened... :-(

Anyone else find calculators make it real easy to make stupid mathematic mistakes... I took the rolls, multiplied them by a cost per roll, and the cost of developing - it should be more like $7000... DOH!

I do know someone who shoots panoramas, pays $30 per roll for slide film, and gets four shots per film... they shot 15,000 images to get 150 for a book - that's over $100,000 in film alone, plus processing costs on top of that... OUCH!

Peace be with you...
Stuart

Slide film is like shooting digital. you have about a 1/3 stop in latitude exposure before the image is useless.

The glass is easy to justify when the photography pays the bills :) That's some nice lenses there Stuart! I'm about to order the 80-200 2.8 IS *drool*

I have a Sekonic 508-L light meter. its niiiiice...

I've finished photography classes up to Photo 2, and will be taking Photo 3 next semester. It is basically an introduction to photojournalism, and should be a lot of fun. I use a Pentax K1000 for most of my stuff, though I do have an Olympus digital camera that I will use for color. Ive had a few peices in the art shows at school, I may post some of them if I can get around to scanning them.

I am used to using a Canon T-70, its old school but still a great camera. I dont think digital cameras will be able to get to the high qualitys available with some of the larger format cameras. I would like the Canon Eos 1DS, its an slr camera with 11.1 mp resolution. its out of my price range though for a few more years.

Sorry buddy, this is how digital myths get started! Its hard for us pros to tell people the advantages of digital when people go around saying things like this ;)

You shoot that 1Ds and come back and tell me that its not comparable with a MF camera!

Who here like to use standard cameras to take their pictures? I love my camera. I don't think I could ever use a digital as much as I use my standard. What about you?
I use my digital if I need to take lots of pictures at once, or I want to get my pictures back quickly. I use my standard cam if I'm needing zoom, fast response, or high quality, or (usually) if I'm doing sunsets.

My digital is a 2MPX Sipix SC2300. My standard is a 35mm w/ 2X zoom.

Hi Guys! (((WAVES)))

I am a photographer (as my profession!) All of my work is digital photography.

Although for fun I use a Cannon Rebel 2000 and a Nikon something or other (it's my fiances and I can't remember what it is!)

I also have a darkroom set up in my home, which I love!

i have a very nice 4megapixel minolta Dimage digital camera, i dont think i could ever go to an analog standard. though as im becoming more proficient with, and demanding more from my camera, im beginning to see some of the shortcomings of digital. for example, all but professional level digital cameras have an autofocus, which is nice for beginners, but a professional or hobbyist would know that sometimes focusing yourself is better and in many cases necessary. and like you mentioned theres the whole battery problem.

but something i like about digital, and enjoy the envious responses of analog enthusiasts from, is the fact that i can print out a crisp 13 x 19 inch photo, with almost no effort. :)

I consistently, and I mean CONSISTENTLY, pretty much on a daily basis, get comments from people that they had NO idea that digital images could look SO good, compare with or beat film, etc... but the biggest part is having good equipment - a 1-2mp cheapie with a sub $50 printer will NOT give the same results as a 10D and an A3 photographic printer... horses for courses and all that, but the people who are saying digital isn't as good, or will never beat film, aren't looking at the right end of the technology - the film users in my camera club acknowledge that, too...

Above and beyond that - "I dont think digital cameras will be able to get to the high qualitys available with some of the larger format cameras" NEVER?? Things progress... Fuji have a new system of using two sensors for each pixel, one for shadow and midtone, one for highlights, so you can capture a much higher tonal range than film ever has... put a full frame sensor together with that technology and you'll really knock some socks off... but it'll cost, it won't be going into a $199 digital compact near you for years...

Peace be with you...
Stuart
