  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I have a job, but I get a ride to work, since I work with a guy that lives just up the road. Other than that though, I'm pretty much at home, unless I happen to be able to get a ride somewhere.

I'm so incredibly happy that I may be able to get car loaned to me so that I can go the the Paschal celebration!

A friend of mine used to be a regular poster, though he stopped after family, church, and work began demanding more of his time. He told me about CF just about the time I was beginning to get involved with forums in the first place. At times I've quit posting for months, but I eventually come back when my time isn't quite as precious.

I'm a janitor at a local high school. I was a college student, but haven't been able to attend for the last two semesters, due to a move, and the aforementioned lack of transport, but I think I might be able to get back to class for the fall. I'm majoring in philosophy/religion and english, and thinking of picking up an education minor.

Childhood memories: When my dad would get home late at night, and I'd watch tv with lying on his chest with my head up under his chin. Also, running around like a loon with my friends

What were your favorite toy(s) growing up? G. I. Joes

What were your favorite cartoon(s)? He-Man, Thundercats, G. I. Joe, Transformers, and Voltron

What was you favorite book(s)? I don't remember. I've been able to read since I was three, and have read a lot over the years. I didn't get hold of the Chronicles of Narnia until I was twelve, and LOTR until I was fifteen

What was your favorite subject(s) in school? English and Science, until about Jr High, when Science began to be replaced by History.

Do you trust a lot of people?

Define a lot. I'm pretty trusting, but I'm also realistic about it.

Are you forgiving?

Very much.

What's going on tomorrow?

Mostly work. I don't exercise on Wed or Sun

Are you in a good mood?

Yes, and nearly always.

What was the last thing you laughed at?

A friend watching a tv show that I'm talking to via IM.

Do you tend to get lost driving?

If I don't know the area, but that can be fun.

Do you have a mental illness of choice (if you had to have one)?

Now that's an odd question. I'd have to go with synesthesia.

What is the last thing you said aloud?

"You have a good night!" to my ride home from work.

Outside your family, who is the one person you would be stranded on an island with?

I don't know .... any volunteers?

What pictures do you have around you right now?

Not really pictures, but I have some ikons.

What is a good random quote you know?

There isn't one. I am pretty good at thinking before I speak, and I'm horrible at remembering the exact words I said.

What is something you fear that's completely random?

Don't really have phobias anymore, but spiders used to be the main one.

And you're afraid of that because?

Cause spiders are seriously creepy, and I was too young to watch Arachnaphobis when I did.

Are you mad at someone right now?

No

Do you wear contacts?

Glasses

Do you like thunderstorms?

Yes and no.

Do you believe in the 5 second rule?

Depends on the floor. Being a janitor, I'm can't worry too much about germs, but I wouldn't pick anything up off the boys' bathroom floor.

What is the most stupid thing you have done?

Too many ties for that title to list.

What are your current feelings about your first true love?

Not sure that I had one, cause I don't really believe in the concept.

What is your weapon of choice?

I'm pretty well trained with my hands and swords, though I also like various stick weapons, and I'm not a bad shot with firearms, but I actually dislike those.

Would you rather improve something or appreciate it the way it is?

Depends on what it is.

Well, it kind of starts when I was fourteen. My World History textbook mentioned the EOC as part of the oringal Church, even stating that it was the RCC that split from it.

(Note to RC's: I'm not trying to debate. That's what the book said)

I didn't hear anything else for years, and wandered spiritually, investigating various occult, pagan, New Age, and Eastern beliefs. Taoism and Confucianism actually got me interested in Christianity again, enough to dig out an old Bible I'd had since I was nine. At that point, I was 22.

Right about that time, a friend received a medical discharge from the USMC and, come to find out, he had been Baptized days before he had left. We got to talking, and I attended a few services. We had no priest yet, so they were just reader services. Then I happened to stumble in to the Forgiveness Sunday DL, when a priest was visiting. Weirded out, and upset at not being allowed to receive the Gifts, I didn't go back for months.

One thing kept troubling me though. Reader Timothy, on one of the early occasions I visited, had made a point about fasting being expected of Christians. I decided to give it a try on the Dormition Fast ('03). Sometime during the Fast, I just knew I had to be Orthodox. No dreams, no visions, not a descision of mine, just a sudden realization. My next DL was Dormition (my birthday) and I went. On the Feast of the Uplifting of the Cross (9-14-03) I was made a catechumen, and was Baptized and Chrismated on the following Holy Saturday (4-10-04)

Sounds like our studies of history led us in the same directions. ;)

I'm guessing St. Photius is your patron saint. ;) Why Photius?

About halfway through my catechumenate, I started wondering about who it would be, and in our parish, you pick, unless you can't decide. I thought of St Geoge, St Moses the Ethiopian, St Patrick, and others. Then one night, I stumbled onto a website that had some of St Photios's letters, while I was looking up some theological point, not even thinking about a patron. Reading his letters was like meeting a truly great friend. That's why.

Btw, there's also a St Photios of the Kievan Caves, but you can tell which of the two by my avatar.;)

Ah, I wasn't even aware of St. Photios of the Kievan Caves, or if I heard of him in passing, I confused him with the Photious of Constantinople. :)

So did you, or do you, ever play any RPG's?

Well, since I moved, it has been difficult to get anything going, though there was a very fun Eberron session back in January. I didn't start until right around the time of D20, but I've also played the old Marvel, and a bit of my favourite, WFRP, which I really want some more of. I've tried some Rifts, and other things, but D20 has been the most common. It's mostly a reason to hang with friends and goof off, but it does provide some direction to such evenings.
