Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think that what you are asking is academic. Good persons engage in ethical behavior not because of the philosophy they hold or learned but because that is what good persons do.

Whether or not I can identify my personal philosophy as post-modern or existential does not change how I act and react, it only provides labels for abstract ideas.

If philosophy is the ultimate ruler in life, how important is it to:

A)Practice good philosophy
B)Learn good philosophy
C)Teach good philosophy
As someone who is on a philosophical path, I'd say that you've listed them in order of importance. Practicing good philosophy is the highest because wisdom isn't worth very much unless it is applied to one's life.

AND, if we can do all this and are philosophically sound, will we be led to eternal life be it Abrahamic or not?
Not, if eternal life doesn't exist, of course.

It depends on how one looks at it I guess..... There's always the few the proud the too stupid to understand... People who use philosphy as a fundamental element to rule their life will look under a rock and wonder how the things under there got there in the first place.... A person who lives in the middle will react to whats there first then wonder... then there are those who just react and never think of it again. 3 kinds of people all lost in their own minds and ideas. To those hardcore philosophers who think to much like Eudaimonist here and say stuff like "Not, if eternal life doesn't exist, of course." etc.. and to those of you who are getting into philosophy pretty deep.. Remember that "knowledge" is the enemy of faith if used wrong. And besides philosophers who actually posess knowledge and a rational mind do not disprove eternal life... they would think of it rather as a change in form because ofcourse we are enery and energy never dies only changes form. Oh well I guess im going out on a limb here looking for some people to actually have found a happy medium between Knowledge and faith... Rather than using your knowledge to disprove faith why not look at it as a way to prove it... maybe that would set your souls at ease.

"Knowledge" (aka wisdom) is the enemy of faith if used right. :)

My soul is at ease, thanks. Reason is no more the enemy of tranquility than faith is, as the greek philosophers knew.

To practice, to learn, to teach philosophy, if able, or promted is a good thing, but what defines "good" philosophy, and what makes it the "ultimate ruler"?
