• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Was wondering what pets everyone has(if you have pets) and how they make you feel. We just got a 4 month old kitten. It amazes me how calming it is to have him on my lap and petting him. As soon as I wake up and sit at the computer he is in my lap. He is here now. His name is Benny.

We also have a bearded dragon and fish. We had a lot of fish but the Black Eyed Moore ate them, all but one. Guess they are friends.

This is Oz my beardie.

Did you separate the only survivor from the black moore, so it wouldn't become after tea or snack meal ??

Benny is adorable. My neighbor used to have the same type of cat. All back, chest white and 4 white paws, very pretty. She was very social. Everyday, she would stand in front of her house to see people walk by. And she would greet me (by meow) when I see me leaving or returning to my house. It's like as if she said: "Morning, going to school?" and "Hello, you are back".

And even in the winter (with snow) she still wouldn't stay at home and social around and go to my garden, and I see those mini holes (her foot steps). It's cute to see how cats walk on snow, they seems to walk different too compare to dry ground.

I have a lovebird, about 13yrs old now. He wasn't hand feed. At first it took me 3 years to let me touch and pet him.

No they are not separated. He leaves that fish alone.
Thank you. I think Benny is adorable. My husband picked him out at the shelter.
I love how cats are when you come home. They can't wait to see you.
Oh I bet the lovebird is gorgeous. Would love to see a picture if you have one :)

They are great pets. I hope to hear about others here too. Animals are great for comfort. Oz is asleep a lot at this time of year. He goes into a type of hibernation, can't remember the name of it. I don't know if all lizards do that or if it is just beardies that do.

Adorable kitten! I love any form of lizard too. Animals are amazing, and they never fail to make me feel better when I am upset, or down.

I have a dog, and he always makes me smile and cheers me up when I need it.

Animals always make you feel better :)

We have 3 dog's, 2 bearded dragons, a Tegu, 3 snakes, a rabbit, a ferret and one fish lol!

When I'm feeling upset i just grab a dog and hug it tight :)

What is a Tegu? I love snakes. My husband is totally scared of them. What kind of snakes do you have? An old roommate of mine had ferrets. Do your run free n the house? Hers did. They were crazy and so fun to watch.

Some adorable pets here. I love cats so much and have 2 of my own called Smokey and Chloe. Smokey is a large, longhaired, white and grey/black tom who is very affectionate and always wants to be fussed and stroked. Chloe is a small semilonghaired tortoiseshell/white female who is pretty timid but can be affectionate at times. They get on well together though, like most good friends, they sometimes fight. I love them to bits! They are my babies!!!:kiss::kiss::kiss:

Hedgehogs are awesome pets! We just got a dog. A truly (imo) and horribly ugly dog who needs a lot of work. Half lab, half wiener dog? It has beady eyes like that of a rat and it doesn't seem to run, but scurry. The kids love it, so...

You have to post a pic!!!

We have three cats, corresponding to my CF virtual pets. Tiger Lily (we simply call her Tiger for short) is a marmalade tabby, at least 12 years old, possibly a bit older. In human years, that's 65 at the minimum, so she does qualify as a senior citizen. She's not terribly old, but she seems to be feeling her age. It's hard for her to walk, and she has not been able to jump up on the furniture for a couple of years now. We help her by lifting her when she wants up. She's a bit on the fat side too. Sometimes I refer to her as Mrs. Garfield. :D

Alex, a tuxedo cat, is 5 1/2, or 39 in human years. Like people of that age, he is finally starting to mellow and settle down. My daughter and I raised him from a kitten, and he loves both of his mommies. He got his middle name, Irwin, in honor of the Irwin family of Australia Zoo fame. He came to live with me the very day that Steve Irwin was killed. But he already had his name, so I put the Irwin in the middle. Currently he is at my feet under the computer desk, and he usually hangs out as near me as possible. He's quite a kissy face. He seems to know when I'm stressed, and he gives me lots of sandpaper kisses. Often he will make it a special point to comfort me, even when people can't. People tend to try to reason with me. Alex knows not to even bother. He doesn't care if I'm being rational or not. He only wants to make me feel better.

Then there's little Paisley. We got her about a year and a half ago, from one of my husband's co-workers. She had been orphaned at 3 weeks old, when her cat mommy was hit by a car. The co-worker and his wife bottle fed the kittens until they were old enough to be weaned, and then found new homes for them. Paisley came with us. I thought that was just the right name for a calico. Her middle name is Ann because she's a little orphan. She was supposed to be my birthday present, but she likes hubby Mike better. When he's in the recliner watching TV, she's between his feet. When he's playing games on the computer, she's curled up in his other arm, at his chest. Yet she won't even let me hold her. :( Just as well, though, since Mike needs her. Paisley had just turned a year old last May when our elderly Tuffy passed on, and Mike was crushed. No cat can replace Tuffy. Paisley has big paw prints to fill. But she's trying her best. Maybe she knows he needs the attachment, since Tiger and Alex are more drawn to me.

All of them sound so wonderful and are in a wonderful home full of love.
