  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was watching TV this morning around 5am before I went to work...and that's when I saw it. A Peter Popoff infomercial.

Has anyone else seen this guy before?

I was very disgusted to see that he was selling his "Miracle Spring Water" and "Prayer Nails" and some kind of blessed cloth to people and taking advantage of them. Does anyone else here find it morally wrong to swindle and take advantage of people who are so down and out, that they're vulnerable to this kind of trickery?

He had two "testimonials" from people who ordered the miracle spring water, and they were "blessed with $5,000 checks" that randomly showed up in the mail.

After doing some research, I found out that Popoff actually sends these checks himself to 2 or 3 random people who order his junk...and the idea of giving a destitute person 5,000 bucks is noble...but not when his bank records show that he made a quarter of a million dollars last year off of people who placed orders and got nothing more that an eyedropper full of tap water and a rusty nail.

Any thoughts on this guy?

Popoff was a prominate figure in the 80s (?). He was well known for picking people out of a crowd and knowing what their name is, what their problem was, etc. However, Randi exposed that this was a fraud. In reality the audience members had filled out cards with information before the performance. Popoff's team would note which information applied to who and then using a radio signal and an earpiece would tell Popoff about the people.

I agree with peacelover02. I ordered some of the water as well during a morning where I was desperate for something. I drank the water and nothing worked. I felt guilty about it. I found out later that he was false. I wish I could have known that sooner. I keep getting letters from him; they will be shredded and thrown away soon. And he will NEVER get a dime out of me!

When I was a teen I worked at a company that sent out newsletter, and things considered religiuos such as mustard seeds, prayer cloths, crosses bunch of junk.

I was just a kid and didn't grasp the situatin at the time, actually didn't till i became a christian at 33.

Anyway, for sending in money the co. said they would pray for people and also send these gifts along.

I remember the files were many rows and very tightly packed as all letters were saved.

Most letters were from the elderly.

checks in one pile letters in other pile.

It's awful, and just writing this breaks my heart to know there are so many lonely people out there who just want someone to know they exist.

Others may feel if they dont give they won't get to heaven.

Others may feel if they dont get these icons or gifts that they won't be blessed.

It is a very sad thing and of course happens all the time

Kind of like Jimmy Lee Farnsworth in the movie "Fletch Lives"

Holy Herbalife, that's what it is.

Pyramid scheming by using the church.

Not good.

I'd be ticked off if someone did that with Mjolnir necklaces and amber necklaces, saying they were "blessed by the Gods".
