That made me look at Revelation 20 again.
If the Pope is the succession of Peter, then that would imply he is that messenger coming down in Revelation 20:1.

Matthew 16:19 I will give thee, the keys to the kingdom of the heavens,--and the whatever thou shalt bind/dhshV <1210> upon the land, shall be bound/dedemenon <1210> in the heavens, and, whatsoever thou shalt loose/lushV <3089> upon the land, shall be being loosed/lelumenon <3089> in the heavens.

Revelation 20:1 And I perceived a messenger [Peter/Pope?] descending out of the heaven, having the key to-the abyss, and a chain/alusin <254>, great, on the hand of him.
2 And he holds the dragon, the serpent, the ancient/arcaion <744> , who is a devil/diaboloV and Satan, and he-binds-him/edhsen <1210> a-thousand years
