Persuasive Speech

For my communications class, I've got to give a persuasive speech to the class. (I've already given an informative and a group speech).

I was thinking about some possible topics, and the first thing that came into my mind was abortion. I think that I am pretty good at accurately giving the pro-life stance, but I have a feeling my teacher won't let me pick that as a topic because "it's just been done too many times."

I was also thinking about doing my persuasive speech about why we should privatize Social Security (another topic I've been very interested in), but I think it would be too boring for most freshmen in college.

Does anybody else have any good suggestions for topics I can use?

I doubt it, there's a couple topics that she made pretty clear that we shouldn't use.

Politics, some religion (not as much as you guys do). I figure I'll do a political topic, but I can't figure out which one to do.

Hhhhmmmmm. Maybe you could think of something that someone else has persuaded you on recently and dig into all it's facets for the class. Have you recently been convicted on some issue lately that you could work with? Sometimes it's in those very things where we have been on both sides that we do the best at convincing others.

Throw some general ideas out, and maybe we can help you to narrow them down. I'm bad at coming up with ideas out of the blue, but am good at working with what I'm given. Try me.

I was thinking of maybe doing it on affirmative action. The only problem with that is there are so many different levels of affirmative action. The school I go to advertises themselves as an affirmative action campus, but it really doesn't follow the true definition.

I was against. It was a research-type paper (not set up in persuasive speech format), but I had to present it to the class.

I'm strongly against it. It hurts both the minorities and the non-minorities.

To be honest, I wasn't aware that affirmative action was an issue 6 years ago. Shows you how much I know.

Your 24 years old, right? I'm assuming that you were a senior in high school at when you were 17 or 18.

LOL!! I could blabber on for hours!! Now whether or not it'd be persuasive-- now that's a different story!!
